Moving up to the 375 Allen Magnum plus living in an apartment make for some innovative opportunities.
The package came with 100 pieces of APS 375 AM Jamison brass. Six were loaded as Kirby used only 5 for final accuracy confirmation. The loaded rounds allowed accurate set up of the seating die to exactly match the dimensions used in the test fire rounds.
Next step was to come up with a way to prime the fire formed cases. I chose to make my Lee Hand Priming tool fit the job. I had done some modification to it to get the Ultra Mag cases to fit when reloading for the 270 AM.
The case holder of choice is the RCBS #47. Had to hike several blocks to Ace Hardware for a small grinding tip and a cut off wheel and arbor for my handy dandy plug in drill motor.
Where does one go to cut the base off of an RCBS shell holder when it's dark and raining outside? Yep you guessed it......the bath tub.
I got the job done but not without a couple of gouges in the ol' thumb...... Forgot the Norm's shop safety review points.
Larger problems came later when the Mrs. complained about the "sand" in the tub. I thought I cleaned up really well. Sure wished she'd shower instead of soak.
After enlarging the center hole in the shell holder to the proper size the grinder was used to enlarge the upper opening in the priming tool.
When the first primer was seated she worked like she was supposed to. Did the rest of the cases.
A note about the Jamison brass is that, as far as primer pockets go, the uniformity, by feel, was very consistent. Though the large rifle primer seems a little insignificant in that large case head.
An OBTW thing, is that I think I stumbled on a way to reclaim my buckets full of 270 AM cases with overly enlarged primer pockets. It'll take some tooling up to make the push rod but I think it can be done. We'll see...
Next step in the process is to send several 350 SMK to Kevin @ MCR and get a meplat trimmer and maybe come up with a way to repoint those big beautiful bullets.
Another thing is that it's gonna take some getting used to get less than 50 loads out of a pound of powder.gun)But the way I intend to use this rig an 8# canister will out last me.....
