Much larger cartridge and apartment living makes for challenges.

Moving up to the 375 Allen Magnum plus living in an apartment make for some innovative opportunities.

The package came with 100 pieces of APS 375 AM Jamison brass. Six were loaded as Kirby used only 5 for final accuracy confirmation. The loaded rounds allowed accurate set up of the seating die to exactly match the dimensions used in the test fire rounds.

Next step was to come up with a way to prime the fire formed cases. I chose to make my Lee Hand Priming tool fit the job. I had done some modification to it to get the Ultra Mag cases to fit when reloading for the 270 AM.

The case holder of choice is the RCBS #47. Had to hike several blocks to Ace Hardware for a small grinding tip and a cut off wheel and arbor for my handy dandy plug in drill motor.

Where does one go to cut the base off of an RCBS shell holder when it's dark and raining outside? Yep you guessed it......the bath tub. I got the job done but not without a couple of gouges in the ol' thumb...... Forgot the Norm's shop safety review points.

Larger problems came later when the Mrs. complained about the "sand" in the tub. I thought I cleaned up really well. Sure wished she'd shower instead of soak.

After enlarging the center hole in the shell holder to the proper size the grinder was used to enlarge the upper opening in the priming tool.

When the first primer was seated she worked like she was supposed to. Did the rest of the cases.

A note about the Jamison brass is that, as far as primer pockets go, the uniformity, by feel, was very consistent. Though the large rifle primer seems a little insignificant in that large case head.

An OBTW thing, is that I think I stumbled on a way to reclaim my buckets full of 270 AM cases with overly enlarged primer pockets. It'll take some tooling up to make the push rod but I think it can be done. We'll see...

Next step in the process is to send several 350 SMK to Kevin @ MCR and get a meplat trimmer and maybe come up with a way to repoint those big beautiful bullets.

Another thing is that it's gonna take some getting used to get less than 50 loads out of a pound of powder.gun)But the way I intend to use this rig an 8# canister will out last me.....

Your posts crack me up!

I thought you did not have to fire form kirby brass?

The cases came fire formed with the spent primers still there.

I would have done the fire forming my self but like to support fellas with new business opportunities, specially those named "Roy".:)

The cases are fire formed very nicely with only the sharpness of shoulder and neck angles being improved with firing.

I'm 101% confident that I'll notice very little if any difference in the rifle's performance between the first and subsequent loadings.

bigngreen: By repointing I means as with the Whidden system though less expensively. Also I don't recall if he makes a 375 point set. The idea is to shrink the meplat as much as practicable. With this rig I'm going for bone on every shot thus not as concerned as I could be with initial expansion.

Plus by the time I get to serious shooting I'm figgerin' someone will have some better weight high bc projectiles for the 375. Oh, Paul already has dies, maybe I'll take a sabbatical from my sabbatical and hire on with Wildcat probono and run a few. Freedom of choices is such a nice thing.:)

lmao sad thing is i could see someone in idaho having a 5000 dollar rifle set up and still have to walk to the hardware store.

screech,

I'm in an apartment in Salt Lake City Ut, the rifle is in Idaho. I'm getting ready for the big shooting moment!

Oh and heh, there's a lady here from Riggins. Name's Burnett, I think, raised their family in Riggins. Husband had a gold mine for the whole time. Quite a talented lady.

Riggins sure must be a great place!!!!

I was thinking about getting one of the re-pointing systems and working over some Bergers to get a little larger Meplat but re-point it to all even specs, to see if I can get a little more consistent terminal performance on the 210's. I've got to many things to do, work is really getting in the way of hobby time :D

GS custom seems to be doing quite a bit of work on the 375 fodder right now, lot of work seems to be getting done with the 375 stuff I bet we'll have some nice options within a couple years.

the name sounds familiar but i cant put a face to the name. ya, riggins is great. long range hunting dream untill it comes to retrieving game. has a tendency to be kinda steep around here:(
