I took my son out to a wheat field i have been watching for some time. I new where the bucks had been coming into the field right down from a hilltop that allowed us to see the whole field. Well this day the deer out smarted us and came out on the far end about 1150 yards out. I needed them within 500 for my boys 243. I brought my 308 instead of my 300WM since I was backup. We decided to wait and see if they would move toward us and get to 500 yards for him or 800 for me ( I didnt want to shoot any farther than that with my 308. The deer moved toward us slowly but by dark they where 880 yards out. So I loaded a round, dialed up the scope, held 2mil for wind, and sent the 168 smk on its way. The buck jumped, ran about 25 yards towards the other side, stopped for a few seconds then dropped. I was thinking cool we can drive around to the other side since he dropped by the fence line which is right beside the road. I started picking up my blanket and sand bags throwing them in the truck when my son said" hey dad, dad, DAD I THINK SOMEONE IS JACKING YOUR DEER" I turned and sure enough a white 4 door pickup pulled up there, 2 guys jumped out grabbed my deer and took off. Now we are sitting on a hill on the other side of wheat field about 200yards from the truck, no road threw the field so we would have to drive 2 miles around to get to that spot. I took off the other way hoping to catch them when they turned the corner and hopefully drive right into me, but the SOB's turned the other direction and I couldn't find them.

My son ask me what do we do now dad call the game ranger, I told him no that pickup is stuck in my head and they will be back and I will take care of it.

Uh, do you really think that was the best thing to say to your son?

What lesson will he learn from this?

I would think the ethical thing to do would be to notify the authorities, as your son suggested. Sounds like your son is the adult here.

I'm just say'n.

Man that's just sorry! At least it was your deer, it would have really been tuff to take had your son shot the deer. I hope you see that vehicle again and set those idiots straight.

You betcha, it was the perfect response!

I was surprised to see that the incident was in OK. It is pretty typical, or was, in PA when I was a kid.

It's kinda line in the movie Shooter, "You don't understand, they shot my dog."

That really sucks!!!! I would still turn that info over to the game warden, they can work it from their end. At least there will be more eyes looking for them, not to mention they may already be looking for them for similar acts.

Sorry to hear about that, and the fact that your young son experienced it.......

We did notify the game ranger when we got home as he is my uncle, but the game rangers cant be in all place so I believe we as the hunters have to take steps to help them in all ways we can.

He informed me I am not the first to report this same white pickup. I will find him eventually.

Yes i do, the lesson he will learn is to correct problems he has on his own if possible. That is a big problem in this world i believe if someone has a problem, call someone else to take care of it. I DONT THINK SO I WILL TAKE CARE OF MY PROBLEMS MYSELF.

I think if your going to hunt, hunt legal, help other hunters hunt legal, as their is only one ranger per county here in OK they cant be everywhere.

All I have to say to you is stand up for yourself and the rest of us hunters.

Right on.... A good *** kickin does wonders to get things straightened out!

If you didn't get the license number of the truck there is not much you can do about it, know this from experience happened to me.
Had a person tell me a deer is not yours until your name is on it, and that sucks but thats the way it is now days.

How can a guy live with himself doing something like that, there is no sense of pride is saying I swiped this deer, if I was his buddy I would kick his butt all the way to the game wardens!!!!
I just don't understand taking game, one of my friends was actually fired on and pushed of a bull elk this year by a bunch of drunks from Minnesota, they actually shot at them as they we're trying to crawl back to the truck to get out of there also, they got turned in and I believe are in deep. But we have the same problem here with the Wardens, I live in the biggest county in MT and we have two game wardens, it's freaking ridiculousness, I turned in more guys this year than I ever have before but the Warden really can't do much but show up at camp and scare them a little unless he can find something hard to nail them with.

Hope you find those tards!!!

If you can hit a deer at 880yds , you should have no problem hitting a radiator. Trucks can't travel but so far and then you drive up to them and offer a 'helping hand'. He'll have no idea that you were the shooter and you get his name and tag # and he get's to buy a new radiator. Turns into an expensive deer for him.

I agree perfect response too !! Most people dont raise there kids to deal with there own problems anymore glad a few of us still are. I know the bad guys have more rights than we do too but These guys need a good *** woopin! then they might think twice about what thier doing.

Radiator replacement isn't a bad idea. However I think just reading the tags via scope would be the best. Depending on your personality you may want to hold a foot over the tags and after you've read em, squeeze one off for good measure.
