Viper PST vs Leupold VX-3

Sent a email to Vortex about the PST a week ago and the reply says there is a possibility they will began shipping before the end of the year but nothing yet set in stone.

I like the MOA turret along with the MOA hash marks for under a grand.

Are they not keeping up with demand, or are they testing the consumer market for demand?

From what I understand they shipped like a thousand then recalled them. They have redesigned the turrets and made them stiffer as some early on complained they were too soft. If you had one of the originals you had the option of keeping or returning it.

That's my understanding take it for what it's worth. So hopefully they will ship soon and I will buy one.

This is the first FFP scope I have ever looked through and also owned. I am no expert and bought all the extras before I got the scope like a 3500 Kestral, Bullet Flight program in a new i-Pad Touch and a Laser Range Finder. I am now thinking about selling the Kestral because I do not see ever using it because I don't have any place to shoot past 600 yds near where I live in north Georgia.

I really do not know of anything I do not like about the scope. :) As far as I can see it does everything it is advertised to do. I have had the turrets move when they were not touched by me. I do think it happened when it was man handled sliding it in and out of the truck when I was hunting. It only happened a couple of times and now I am used to double check them when getting ready to shoot. I think that this has taught me a good thing because you could miss a shot because you are not paying attention to what you should be. I was so used to having covers over the turrets on my other scopes that I never checked them until I saw that they had moved.

I was offered to exchange this scope with a new improved one and I am going to do this. Then I am going to buy another one for another rifle also.

I can not stress how much I like the custom turret. Laze the target then turn the turret to the yardage and hold for the wind and shoot. Wam-"bam" thank you mam. gun)

On my PST it works extremely well. It has a bunch of different brightnesses. What is really neat is once you set it the way you like it you only have to click it one click to turn it off or on and be where you set it last. This makes it very fast to turn it on exactly where you want it with only one click. These scopes have many different things that all work together. Example is that the clicks of the turrets match the same MOA or Mil of the reticle and the hash marks are the same measurements in MOA or Mil and if you get a custom turret it will also match the MOA or Mil that your scope is that you order. I think that Vortex got their ducks in a row when they designed these scopes.

As for my scopes custom turret I use it for yardage distance and hold for windage with the hash marks on the horizontal or I can turn the windage turret in MOA clicks. Everything is coordinated with everything else and with the FFP you can do this at any power you choose. It is very neat that you don't have to think of what you want to do (after using it a little) you just automatically do it.

I chose the MOA because I wanted the custom turret to be in yards so when I range with the laser range finder in yards it all matches up in the measurements and I do not have to change my thinking from MOA to Mils. Its just a personal thing. Both MOA and Mil work equally. From what I was told is that with the Mil scope the custom turret would get me to 1,000 yds in one revolution and my MOA turret gets me to 900 yds in one revolution, but I still have plenty of turning past 900 yards to get me to at least 1,200 and maybe to 1,500? Hopefully Vortex can have the custom turrets made with yardage or Meters measurements for 3 revolutions for the guys with the "big cannons" for much longer distances than I need.

You have to understand that I am new to long range shooting and you need to get advice straight from Vortex about their PST and other scopes. The people at Vortex helped me to go in the direction that was best for me and as for the Custom Turret they made me it is absolutely amazingly accurate. I can not understand how they were able to get it perfect the first time. They must really know their stuff. If you give them very accurate drop measurements that you measured on your targets at the distances from your zero they will give you a quality product.

From what I have read is that shooting in F class the targets and distances are measured in Mils and you may need to take this into consideration. Please research this for yourself because I am not very knowledgeable about F class.
