Ok need a good long range hunting scope, preferably 30mm tube. Other than nightforce, leupold or zeiss what scope would you choose, weight is a factor? Im pretty set on VX-3 6.5x20x50, but just seeing what other options there are.

You might check out Sightron. They have great glass for the price. Lifetime warranties. Track very nicely. I have a SII 4-16x42 MD. That scope is 11 years old now and has held up fine. It's on a heavy barrel AR-15 right now. I'm very happy with it.

That said, I just ordered a VX-III 3-9x40 CDS.

Are sightron american made scopes? Hows the glass/light gathering?

The SII scopes are bright for their price range. The SIII 30mm scopes are an upper tier optic and are a good step up in quality. Sightron scopes (as well as Nikon) are Japanese glass but not to be confused with Chinese.

I do not know the forum coc rules on posting links so if this is out of line I will remove it. Here is a review on the scope comparable to the VX-III you are looking at.

I don't think there are any Sightron's assembled here in the states...could be wrong. As far as glass quality....My SIII's are extremely close to the quality of my NightForces....but this is very subjective and others may have a different personal experience. I believe Leupold also uses Japanese sourced glass for many of its scopes.

All in all...I've been extremely pleased with the quality of my Sightron S III scopes. For the money...I think they represent strong value for the dollar. I also recently purchased a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x by 50mm form a sponsor here.... on sale For $279...it also represents an amazing value for the dollar. Vortex is a company in Wisconsin....they also use Japanese sourced glass for their scopes.....great company!

That's the scope I have on my rifle and love it. Sure beats the dog crap out of the Bushnell I took off. I have the varmint reticle, but I only use the horizontal hash marks for windage.

I'd like to try the Huskemaw, but there are to many mixed reviews on it right now. Good, Bad, ok. I need to go shooting with a friend at work. He has two of them and loves everything about them. If they had a satisfaction back guarantee then I wouldn't hesitate to try one.
