Thank you for your help in advance. I have a Remington 700 vtr in .22-250. It has a 1-14 twist rate. The barrel is 22" but has the brake on the end. I just cant seem to get 50 grain bullets to group out of this gun. They are scattered all over about the size of a six inch pie plate. Is the barrel to short for the bigger grains or the rate of twist not fast enough? I just dont understand. Im just looking for some help. Thx

do this first:
* remove the brake and then shoot the same loads. I've seen brakes mess up groups more than once.
But also you are probably shooting somewhere around a 21" barrel. The Noslers are a long bullet for their weight, and you just might not be getting enough juice behind the bullet to stabalize them. They will shoot just fine in a 1:14 twist barrel that's 24" long, but the 55 grain BT's usually don't like the slower twist. Try the 50 grain Vmax or the Sierra #1365 at near max loads with a faster burning powder.

a 55 grain Nosler BT will rarely stabalize in a 1:14 twist barrel when fired in a 22-250. It will work in a 1:12 twist barrel, and even then barely. Yet I've seen a few guys shoot the 50 grain BT in 1:14 twist barrels, but they were longer and probably show 200 fps more velocity. I think I'd look for a shorter bullet in the same weight for compairison. I shoot the 55 grain Vmax all the time at 3250 fps out of a 1:14 twist barrel, and I'd think this combo should do just fine for you. The Seirra 1365 bullet in a 22-250 seems to really work well in a 1:12 twist barrel, but I also know guys with remingtons that shoot the same bullet (1:14 twist) very well

I assume these are reloads? What powder and primers have you tried? I've had a couple of .22-250's with 1-14" twist in the past and they both shot 40-52gn extremely tight. As a matter of fact the 52gn SMK with a stout load of IMR4895 and BR2 was my favorite crow buster. Johnny.
