hi guys im new to long range hunting/shooting and i currently dont reload ive beed useing my 6.5x55 for all my hunting and some times my 47-70 im going to buy a sendero but i dont know what cal so im asking for help its between a 7mm mag or a 300winmag the sendero is pretty heavy so im not sure about the recoil i just dont wast something that is not gunna be fun to shoot what cal and how much dose a muzzel brake really help i will be hunting deer size to elk maybe moose please help

Good luck trying to find the 300 win mag. I waited 6 months and tried to buy one new...I ended up going with the 300RUM Sendero SF2 instead. Personally, I did not see the 300WM being worth the wait, when the 300RUM was readily available. I simply couldnt find it. When I called remington, they told me that the wait would be another 4-5 months for them to ship to retailers.

Then I got thinking that 300RUM, unlike the 300WM, is a beltless cartridge which will help you avoid headspace issues if you do decide to reload. Granted, 300WM is easier to find and gunshops and outdoor stores. If you intend to shoot alot and eventually reload, go with the 30 cal since bullet selection is much better than 7Mag. Load it up for varmints to grizzly bear...30 cal covers about anything... The 300RUM is friggin awsome. Asskicker and a stunner to look at.

I ended up mounting a Leupy VX 3LR 4.5 - 14 x 50, M1 windage and elevation, with Nightforce 20MOA Base, and Burris Signature rings. Weight roughly 11.5lbs which will help diminish recoil... The Sendero I have heard will hold 1/2" at 200 yards...Excellent Choice, 300WM is a great choice. Go for it if you can find it. I couldnt find mine, so I went with the 300RUM.... Happy hunting.

Just my 2 cents.

either one...great choice.

300 vs 7mm comes down to personal choice. I prefer the 300 but there are those who would vote for the 7, who is to saw which is better? As for a muzzlebrake, this is a pretty heavy gun and you may not need one. I shoot the 300 Sendero and there is no reason for me to brake it.

These "headspace issues" reloading the 300WM are completely overblown. Fire the case once, neck-size only, and there is no problem. I have cases with 8 reloads on them, no problems. It's a non-issue.

I have one of each. they both have a vais brake. . i would not want to shoot them without a brake. the stainless fluted models i consider a mid-weight. i would probably pick a 7mmmag over a 300 win but either is a good choice. the 300 win is one of the most forgiving cartridges i have loaded for also, but you don't load. with the 210 bergers it really shines at the longest ranges ; however the 7mm mag is what i use the most . go figger.

Please explain.....The dummest brain dead guy can load a belted magnum and not have to worry about headspace issues and all of the problems incorrect headspace can cause. The case will automaticy headspace off of the belt if the die gets cranked down to much.

The experianced handloader adjusts his die to just kiss the sholders to get the correct headspace off of the sholder, and ignores the belt compleatly.

Both can just neck size and ignor the belt AND headspace issues.

I just can't figure out the "anti belt" statements that are being made.

As far as which cal go with the 7mm mag or SAUM.

"If you intend to shoot alot and eventually reload, go with the 30 cal since bullet selection is much better than 7Mag."

I disagree w/the bullet selection. There are plenty of 7mm bullets that are great ballisticaly. A muzzle brake will help both out tremendously. Make them both tolerable to shoot. The 7mm will however have less recoil and be more fun to shoot b/c to match the ballistics of the 180 class 7mm bullets you will have to go to a 210 class 30 cal. W/that said, obviously the 300 will pack more energy down range but it will also kick harder. It's all a trade off and unfortunatly there is no clear answer. It's all up to you.

Chevy-Ford!
I shoot a 7mm and love it. 168 Bergers at 3075 gps is very impressive. The 7 mm has as many good bullets as the 30cal. But the 300 win mag is equally impressive.

As for a muzzle break, is it absolutely need, No! Does it mke it much nicer to shoot and spot your shots, Yes. I would put a break on it.

Both will suite you great.

If you decide on the 300 win mag you should check out the 700 LTR, I have one and it groups under MOA with most factory loads from 180 grain and heavier. They come with a fluted stainless 26" barrel, aluminum bedding block composite stock, and a 40X externally adjustable trigger. I have not put a brake on it and I can usually go three to four 5 shot groups before I put it away for the day. It is lighter than the Sendero as well if you are going to do much hiking while you hunt. Just another option. Good luck.
