With my 6.5X47 Lapua Encore. Not bad for a light weight skinny barrelled hunting rifle. Light wind, from the left, I didn't think it was enough to blow me off the steel, so I didn't correct for it.

140 Beger VLD backed by Reloader 17 Leupold VXL with a custom dial.

Very nice shooting!!

I sure hope my tight neck 6 Long Dasher (built on the Ackley Improved 6.5X47 Lapua case) will shoot that good. Seems like I've been waiting foreeeeever to find out!

Congrats!

I've been needing to build some more steel targets, my 12" diameter 1/2" plate is getting lots of holes all the way through it. It doesn't look like much damage is done to yours, what kind of steel are you using........anything special??

Yea, I bought mine on EBAY, the 3'X2' and the 12" are both 550 steel and the 16" (the one in this picture is 600. I've got a few dimples from a 300RUM at 200 yards. At 400 yards, nothing even scratches. it. I don't let anybody shoot them with FMJ bullets. I can usually see the hits out to 800 now that I've got steels that don't mare up when you shoot them. The 3X2 foot steel was expensive, but I love it. When you are shooting at small steels at long range, it can be really difficult to find out where you are missing. It was well worth the money and is my favorite steel. It weighs over 100 pounds.

Sounds like way harder steel than what I've got! 7mag to 300 mags with soft expanding bullets will go clean through mine at 200 yds! 338 Edge w/ 300 grain sierra MK went clean through at 400 yds. Even my favorite little 25-06 with 100 grn bullets goes 1/2 way through at 300 yds!

Is the 550 and 600 a hardness reference? I've heard of AR50 plate being the stuff to get, but also heard it was terribly expensive. How thick are these pieces you've got??

AR550 and AR600 is a hardness rating. The harder, the more expenisve, but they last forever and don't mare so you can see all your hits at long range.
AR600 is the eq of Military armor plate. Mine is all half inch. It also makes a great gong sound if it's hung by chains. There is a big difference between regular mild steel and AR550. I don't think there is nearly as big a difference with AR500, but my steels are 550 and 600. 600 costs a lot more and probably isn't worth the difference. It is harder, but past 200 yards your really can't hurt either with hunting bullets.

Hope that helps...

Ok --- Everyone knows the rule about posting 3 shot groups!!!!!

Eveyrone line up behind me to start the stoning!!!!

LOL---don't post that on certian sites!!

Nice shooting BTW!

3 shots at 800 is plenty nice...

10 shot group at 800 is called a competition...

3 cold bore shots on three targets is closer to hunting.

10 cold bore hits on ten separate targets at differnt ranges and conditions is confirmation you can take down Mr. Mulie or Mr. Elk with darn good confidence...time to go a huntin.

Yea, I know, I posted on Accurate shooter, but I put in a disclaimer about the 3 shot group in the post. But this is a hunting site, a one shot group in the kill zone is the only thing that counts. :D

It took me a long time to be able to walk out, and take a cold barrel, first shot, and hit a 10 inch target. IF the wind isn't blowing too hard. I can do that pretty consistently out to 800 now.
