anyone know if the shot grouping will change if the floated stock is sitting on a rest vs. using a bipod that cinches the stock to the barrel? seems that defeats the purpose of floating the stock, right? I did notice my grouping lowered from 3.25" above 0 @ 100yds to 2" above 0 when using the bipod

Not sure what youre askin... its a harris style bipod...
So are the lowered groups consistent with the barrel being tight against the forestock?

There is not going to be anything 'consistent' with a stituation so rediculous!

How does a harris 'style' bipod cause your stock to contact the barrel?
Just trying to figure out what you're REALLY asking..

Guys, I think he was just asking about stock flex.

Skandlus,
I'm guessing you have a budget factory stock with which this is happening. No this is not good in any way for accuracy. You want your barrel to float and vibrate freely. Either stiffen up the stock, or replace it. Removing a little material if it is just a high spot contacting may also fix the problem.

That's NOT what he asked...

"anyone know if the shot grouping will change if the floated stock is sitting on a rest vs. using a bipod that cinches the stock to the barrel"
This isn't "should I stiffen my stock?", or "do I have a problem with my stock, or bipod?"
He doesn't imply that the stock contacts the barrel off a rest, and he already knows that a free floated barrel should not contact the stock.

He knows atleast that something is wrong with his bipod arrangement.
But he hasn't asked a question in that regard..
So far, he is wasting our time.

Hey buddy,

I think I know what you mean by "chinching your stock to your barrel" but could you post a pic so we can see and verify what your describing? I think that would go a long way toward helping usx understand and maybe giving you some suggestions and sharing our collective experience.

It's often stated that "There are no stupid questions" however......I haven't found that to be the absolute truth on many of these forums!!

You really need to get the bipod set up so that you are only attaching it to the stock so that you do not put any pressure on the barrel. I've seen a couple sling swivel set ups that go though the stock and into a boss on the barrel, this kinda thing could tighten the stock up to the barrel as you tighten the bipod.
I have rarely seen stupid questions, many more stupid replies!! Keep working on it you'll get it sorted out, like previously mentioned a pic may be helpful too. gun)
