This is my Uncle's Factory Savage 7mm Rem Mag, that I am doing the handloads for. This was our final load development, so we wanted to see what it would do at longer ranges. He can now say that he is a member of the 1000 yard club. We had to tweak the MV on our ballistic software to get it to mach up with the actual drop. That is why he shot over the target with that first shot. But we got it dialed in. Then we moved up to 750 yards to make sure all was well. Man was he happy! He could not believe that he could even hit the target in the first place. All that has been done to the gun, was have George at (Precision Shooting Sports) put a Holland Brake on it. It has a 20 MOA bass with a Nightforce scope on it. Sorry I don't have a picture of the gun. I will get one.

The Load info, cause I know you will ask.
Win Brass
Berger 168 vld's
CCI-BR2 Primers
72g Retumbo
3115 fps

Skyking,

Good shooting. Its fun isn't it!

Looking at the video and seeing the topography and wind direction. It may not have been incorrect velocity that caused the bullet to initially hit high. It might have been wind induced lift.

I KNOW he's hooked. I just joined the 1000yd club a few weeks ago with my factory Savage with a McGowan barrel, and I know I'm hooked. Good shooting there. My drops didn't work out with JBM either. JBM was giving me 10MOA drop at 578 yards, but I had to dial in 9.5MOA to hit it. At 1033 yds the drop was a little off as well. Not a lot of difference, but I missed the first shot at both ranges. Once I got it dialed in though, the bullet found it's mark every time. Good shooting.

looks like behind the ranch west of goshen bay (good duck hunting)! gotta love a city were you can drive 15 minutes and shoot 1000+ yards! that mountain across the lake is west mountain. i shoot at the south end! gun)

What length barrel? I can only get 2850fps or so with 162's. Mine if a savage 116fhsak, with the factory brake. I've never been able to break 3000 fps, even with 140's, had some factory 150's shoot about 2950, but that's about it. I call it the 7mm not so magnum. Dang 22" barrel. My 7RUM can get me 3200-3300 with the 162 amax. Just wondering what the cartridge "should" be able to do.

Haha, Heck no! Do you think they would last one day out there? Don't be giving away the spot. Else there will be 100 guys out shooting, leaving there crap everywhere.

The load for the gun is this. It is a hot load so be careful!! Berger 168 vld's over 72g Retumbo, CCI-BR2 primers, bullet seated to just kissing the lands. It has a 24" barrel.

I really would not pay to much attention to the crono numbers. I use the crono mostly for ES,SD stuff. After I am done shooting at 100 yards to get my zero. I take it out to 1000 yards and see how it shoots there. I have the Bulletflight, and the Ballistic FTE both on my Itouch. The crono gets me in the ballpark on MV. I get all the atmospheric conditions from my Kesley 3500, and input them into the program. Bryan Litz's G7 .316 is right on. Now I adjust my MV in the program until I am on target. That is the MV that I go off of. That is why the first shot was over the target. Had the speed to low.

no doubt! just on the other side of the mountain and north alittle a neighbor was killed by a ricochet. all those idiots pull up and jump outta their cars and start shooting against all those loose bolders! they usually dont even look whos setup behind them. i try to avoid that spot like the plague! gun)
