Reloading Accident

My neighbor started the shooting sports last year he bought a .308 for deer hunting, he asked me to spend some time to teach him..I have no time at this moment so I told him not to do any till he starts to read as much as he can.,till I can get some time to come over and help him.

Well he just did'nt listen and loaded a few rounds, he called me all upset telling me he fired one(a reload) and it through flash in his face a it did'nt go boom!one old man pulld his bolt the brass was burned from soot and the Bullet was stuck 10 inches into his barrel.

what can I tell this guy?

I'd be careful as he doesn't seem to pay attention, so tell him you're too busy to teach. The next time he blows himself up his family will be suing you for his injuries.

AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE! He's already proven he doesn't take well to advice or instruction and has clearly demonstrated he is impatient. Not my kind of student. If you associate with this guy in loading, and he gets hurt, it is not unthinkable that his family might indeed sue YOU.

Wash your hands of this now.

I have good days and I have bad days. I think you can see in the posts.
I wont throw in the towel and give up. I got to much *** to kick yet! so if I make a shoot full of mistakes on my wrighting, don't think I am a nut, its the meds.
But I still like to post and talk shooting sports..

Sorry about your troubles but don't give up .If your mind thinks good thoughts the body will
just have to keep up.

You have a lot of friends on this web site and we all look forward to your post so keep'em
comming.

And if you need someone to talk with just call me (You know how I love to talk guns).

And tell your friend to take up some other sport if he won't listen or call 911 every time he
goes to the range .

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Back to the issue of the flash, I'm wondering what caused this to happen? I'm hoping some of the more experienced guys here can weigh in. Since he is new to loading, I doubt it was a component mixup.

What kind of rifle, caliber, powder, bullets? Hopefully, the guy didn't go out component shopping on his own. If he did, I would run away too.

I got some 'new' books last night and was flipping through them and came across a section on undercharged rounds. My money is on he mixed up powders and undercharged it (say a IMR 4831 load using H4831).
