Just looking for suggestions on what to build. I have fell into a deal i couldn't pass up. Two Rem 700 long action mag bolt face. and one standard bolt face.
Been wanting to build an Edge so guess one of the mag bolt face is taken. now what to do with the other?
and what to do with the standard bolt face?
wanting to keep them sendero weight rifles as i do deer hunt but i'm getting into the long range shooting..
wanting them to go along with my PSS 308 police. it will shoot!

also wanting to know what someone would build for a 130 lb woman who has never shot a rifle before? shes wanting her own rifle this year and alot of pink

thanks everyone..
sorry if this is too much

So you have the mag bolt face figured out. What will your girl use her rifle for? Using the long action and keeping recoil down I would lean towards a 6.5-06. Big enough to hunt anything in North America, but easy to shoot for smaller shooters.

ok. sorry must have had brain farts last night. do you think a 6.5-284 would be ok for a woman? not too much recoil?
also was looking at the other mag action... looking at 300 win mag but have heard some peoples bad experiences loading for belted cases??
or just build something stupid big.....

Don't let the belt scare you. A lot of people load and shoot it quite successfully. I saw one guy competing with one shooting 180 SMK's at Williamsport 1000yrd comp. Not sure how he did, but he was a long time shooter of the caliber and has had good luck with it. A sniper instructor that I know uses one and is very accurate out to 1500yrds. Much beyond that and you are pushing its ballistics. The other option would be the 7mmRM and STW. Both great performers for long range without as much abuse as the 300.

As far as for the woman, I would think the 260 Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua, or even the 243 would fill the bill. Any of these calibers will perform admirably to 1000 and 600-800 depending on velocity for deer hunting (accept the 243 for hunting). The 243 even with a heavy bullet will work to 600, but some argue that is a little much for the 243. Though if you look around, our Brit brothers across the pond have had great luck with 87grn V-max to 700 yards with Roe deer. So those are my suggestions.

Build a 6.5x47 with a 8.5 twist and shoot the Berger or JLK 130s.

Look at the Stocky's LR Bobby Hart stocks. do not bother with the pillars, have your smith put them in exactly fitting your action. Stock comes clear coated, inletted with recoil pad for under $300. You cannot beat that.

6.5-284 is not noted for long barrel life (as short as 700 rounds)

Much better barrel life, recoil and easier to shoot and reload with the 6.5x47 IMO.

Here is what one looks like http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f53/6-5x47-tactical-tooley-orian-59941/

if she is hunting deer and elk the 6.5-284 is perfect. put a vais on it and krieger barrel

Bogus problems with belts is plain old BS. Belted magnums have won and set many records on the range and proven performance on big game for many years. If you want one build it. For the standard long action consider the 280 AI. With the quality 7mm bullets available for it and velocities right at the 7mm rem mag the 280 AI is a very good choice that has proven itself over many years. I have several standard and wildcat 6.5 cartridges but there are many more good bullet choices for hunting with higher BC's in 7mm than 6.5 mm.

I would build a 7mm08. It wont hurt to build it on a long action. And for the other long action mag bolt face I would build a 7mm stw or a 375 rum. The rum would be a hammer for shorter range grizzly and moose
