This week on my favorit station THE MILITARY CHANNEL they were praising the 6.5 LAPOUA
as a great cartrige, what can you give as input?

Virtually identical to 260 Rem. Higher quality brass easily available, less case capacity than 260. Nice, but I went with 260 instead.

If your are talking about the 6.5x47 lapua then yes they have good reason to praise it. A super efficient and very forgiving case. The balistics are real close to the 6.5x284 with 6 or more grains less powder cap. I highly recommend them. Easy to get into mags because the oal is shorter. And having the lapua brass available for them makes it a A+ caliber in my booking

I am currently getting a rifle built on the 6.5 X 47 Lapua Case.

It's necked down to 6mm then fireformed in an Ackley Improved chamber.

It's called the 6 Long Dasher or Ackley Improved 6 X 47 Lapua.

Case capacity is supposedly only 2 grains of water less than Tubbs 6 XC.
The non ackley version is about 4 grains of water less than the XC.
It's got a rep of being a very highly efficient case that will handle alot of pressure. Small flash hole, small primer pocket. Will fit in a short action. I am very excited to get it and start playing around with it..........hopefully soon!

supposedly a very 'inherently accurate' round? it does seem a good round but what does it do the 260 doesn't? 47grains of vit N560 gives me 2850fps from necked up lapua 243 brass with a 140 amax head , i can pretty much solve most of my issues with this load right out to fantastic ranges and it all fits in my badger ordnance mag kits on my custom remmys.

once the 260 is shot out i may rebarrel in 6.5x47 but to be honest there will probably be another sparkly super round by then which will maybe catch my eye? or i could just stick with my proven 260?

whats under it doesn't really matter it's the 6.5mm that seems to be the magic?

Agreed! I saw this show too, best part about the show in my opinion, the shameless plug for MGM the mfgs of the steel targets they were shooting at. Mike and Travis Gibson are great guys, make excellent steel targets, and are constant proponents of the shooting sports-all shooting sports. Go MGM!gun)

The long dasher is a good Bench rest cartage I have 3 Barrels for 1000 yard BR in 6x47 long dasher you picked a good one

I went with the 6.5x47 due to being able to purchase Lapua brass and no need to make it out of other brass. Speads are fair, no were near as fast as my 6.5x284, but just as accurate. Recoil is lighter compared to 308 and fits in short actions nicely. The last shoot I was at there were 10 people and 8 were using 308 and 2 of my 6.5x47. We engaged half silhouett targets at unkown distance out to 970ish. They seem to shine even though we had winds gusting up to 15 mph. When the day ended we sat around and compared wind and Dop. I was amazed how much more wind adjustment the 308 guys were having to use over the 6.5. when I burn this one out, I definitely build another 6.5x47 or if Lapua starts making 260 brass I take a harder look at it. both are great calibers.

What makes it better is that im pushing a 139 lapua bullet 2850 with 40.5 grains of 4350...

There is a sharper shoulder and less body taper then a 260. It runs right with and is alot more accurate then any 260 i have ever seen.

bobbyl , i don't think that achieveing the same velocity with a 139 grain bullet makes it better? even with a little less powder? it just so happens that 47 grains of N560 gives me the load density i want and is superbly accurate , well certainly enough for me anyway !

your right it does run with the 260 and what little extra you may be able to squeeze out of the 260 is not really worth worrying about?

i've had mixed results with the lapua bullet for killing deer whereas the 140 amax like it's 168g 308 bigger brother is superb. The 139 lapua is however an excellent target bullet but i like to use one round for targets and game wherever possible as i think this makes you a better shot.

the 6.5x47 is a good round but so is the 260 but then again so are a lot of rounds out there?

Its a lot more efficient round which helps when looking for more accuracy and much lower SD's and ES's. Mine is now getting close to 10 for ES's almost all the time. Im filling my case up with varget and im very happy with the results. If im not compressed in starting to touch cause there is not much room left. I couldn't get enough 4350 in it to get max pressure but it was running them fast enough.

I agree i would never fire a Lapua bullet at a animal they just dont come apart and do damage. They are just my target bullets. The main reasons i went with this round were the lapua brass, better barrel life then the 6.5x284, burning less powder and being able to use small rifle primers.
