Savage edge

What does everyone think of the new savage edge for an entry level hunting rifle. I looked at one yesterday and at $279 was quite impressed by the look and the feel. It seemed to have a qulity matte finish, a detacheble mag, an atractive bolt handle. The stock seemed good for the price, the trigger guard was molded plastic/composite or some other crap however it could be replaced if needed. The bolt seemed to be the same as other savages, the receiver appeared to be slightly redisigned for cosmetic purposes only? I don't know but can only assume that the trigger is the older savage/stevens type which can be adjuste rather easily?

It looks like a winner to me...

I would pick the Stevens 200 over the Edge. At a Texas sporting goods store they are on sale several times a year. Last week I bought another one for $179. Cant buy an action for that.

Dont like Stevens, just change the bolt sleeve with a Savage bolt sleeve. Nobody will ever know.

We sold a few of them at our store, reminds me of the Remington 770. Not very well made. The trigger is the worst I've seen and I don't think it is adjustable. I think the best value for a few dollars more is the Marlin XL7 or the Stevens 200.

The Stevens 200 were on sale for $179, but not anymore in DFW. I think the regular price, when they have them, is $249 and the magnums and .223's are $299. Price also varies with location.

I have 2, a 223 and a 7-08. Trigger feels like 10 pounds, but, shot a 5 shot group at 100 yards you could cover with a nickle with the 223. Having gun smith work the trigger over. More accurate than the Stevens 200's I've had, Marlin XS7 are very close, have a better trigger. I think they are a great buy, mine were $285 OTD.

With the season here a buy like that won't come along anywhere! The best I have seen around here is 399. Hopefully it will be offered again, that is incredible! You might be able to score a decent trigger for that price, I can't even get a good camo dip or minor gunsmithing for that price here! During out of demand seasons maybe

You get what you pay for when you buy firearms...

I purchased a Cobra interprises .380 pistol one time. Price tag got me, so i could not resist the $79 brand new price on a small hand sized .380 auto.

Well about 15 shots later the entire gun exploded in my hand, slide flew back and hit me in the gut, and bullet was fouled inside the barrel. I attempted to contact Cobra about the issue...Never heard a thing back from them.

I bought a .223 Edge a few months ago for well under $300. I'm very pleased with it. The trigger is quite heavy, but it's crisp. Accuracy is very, very good with handloads. The stock was cheap and flimsy, so I took 3 packets of JB weld and filled in the hollow forend to stiffen it up a bit.

I'm pretty sure Savage uses the same barrels on the Edge that they use on other guns. I think Savage barrels are superior to other production rifles.

The Edge is no longer. It is now called the Axis. Stevens 200 is better.

I have had 2 200's, my 2 Edges are more accurate for me, better handling also. Mine are Edges, name changed after I bought mine. I plan on buying 2 more,,,,,,,,,,,,

I won a edge in .223 first time out I tossed (10+ lbr trigger ) it got home ordered a trigger from rifle basix 94.00 from mid way . installed it in 5 min and the thing shoots 5 in a dime time after time . the stock is better than the other savage with out a accustock . I would buy another with out a problem . the stevens stock is not as nice . the stevens 200 is not a new gun that is trying to change the bad out look some have about savage . the edge or axis is that riffle
