I have a Savage 116 left hand that I am working on for a long range hunting rifle and I was wanting to convert it to a detachable box mag,it has the hinged floor plate but I would rather have the mag. I have not been able to find any conversions for a long action and was hopeing that some of you could help me out with this.It will be chambered in 300 win mag. Thanks for any help on this

The best thing is to call Sharp Shooter Supply and tell them what you have and what you want to do, they are the Savage people!!
Don't hold me to it but I think you can order the DBM parts from Savage for another model that came stock with a DBM and the parts will drop in as long as they are the same vintage action.

Yes, that's all you need is the frame and floorplate. I just did the exact same thing this spring.

I don't know if SSS has them, they can be very tough to contact.

I know that you can get them through Savage. The guy I got mine from got his direct from Savage.

They do pop up used every once in a while. If you're a paid member, you can post a want ad on Savageshooters.com

best to email sharpshooter supply. it can be tough getting thru by phone.

I know they encourage e-mail contact over phone but e-mail is just as tough to get in touch with them. I sent an e-mail query on 5 Jul and a 10 Jul follow up but still no response thus far.

So, I gave up and took my business elsewhere. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Not to pile on SSS, but communicate by email so you have a record, and be sure that they stick to their word and ship within the period designated for dispute by your CC.

By all accounts their work is good, however their customer service is a whim at best, not a policy. My CC saw it my way, however it took good documentation and vigilance on my part.

Or you can contact VBull Precision.. them have DBM for the LA Savages that use the AI Mags..

+1 on being careful dealing with SSS.. Lisa is great but a bit scatterbrained or disorganized..

thanks for all the info. I have been eyeing one of the CDI DBM conversion I have not found alot of reviews on it but what I have found have all been positive, and I think they're around $350

So having read this...having read SSS DBM info...anyone think it would be possible to add a Savage DBM to a CHOATE Tactical LA stock?

Following SSS logic the bottom metal is $69 and $70+ in SS and utilizes the factory magazine box...

Looking for a lesser expensive way to make a LA tactical into a DBM gun...

Does Savage offer a Higher capacity DBM in .308?

I will let you know. We are about to attempt just this. Building a 308 on a long action Savage. I have a 1.25" no taper barrel and a choate tactical stock..

I may know Sunday but more likely a week or two.

You may have to watch which long action you have. Though the screw spacing is the same I think you'll still run into staggerfeed on older stuff and centerfeed on others. There will be differences in the bottom of the action between the two. Just check it out real well before you jump on it. Haven't messed with any of the hinged floor plate models but usually if you pull the action from the stock a staggerfeed will have the mag box attached to the action. A centerfeed will pull free with no mag components attached.
