Here's one that's for Matt Roth (aka zupatun) that just went out the door. Here's the specs:

Blueprinted Howa 1500
Broughton barrel
Bell & Carlson Medalist Varmint / Tactical in Olive Green with Black Spider Web

Matt will be doing the bedding and is going to Cerakote the barreled action him self. Hopefully we'll get some pics of this gun after it's color transformation. Hope you enjoy

Got this yesterday in the mail. Really like the results so far...Kevin, I love the engraving! BTW it balances very well also.

Can't wait to bed it. Working on loads using 165 gr Interbonds, win brass and fed primers...will post results when they come in. Ordering sniper grey Cerakote for the metal bits...

Here's what I have so far:

Donor Howa action and flexi stock: $270.
Bell and Carlson Medalist in Olive and black web $212.
Broughton 5C barrel in 5.5 contour: $300 shipped
Adjust/polish stock trigger to 2.5lb break $0
Kevin's various services and (shrunken heads, voodo and general accuracy magic): $410 shipped.
Take off barrel sold -$45
Kydex for home made adjustable cheek piece ($20 for kydex shipped and $3.50 for hardware).
Cerakote Sniper Grey $35
Sub total to date: $1202.00

Experience getting my first "custom" project together = Priceless...

The Mad Scientist hard at work!

+ optics!

How much will you invest?

I have a Nikon Monarch for now. I can only shoot out to 600yds on current land, maybe F-class at Quantico (not right now...) so it's not bad.

That said, I may be able to borrow either/both Leupold Mk4 and/or Nightforce scopes if I ask nicely...I am about 35 miles from Premier...could drive by and see if they have one to spare for a month or so. I'll bring it back...someday.

Kinda tapped out my discretionary budget for now...maybe Christmas present from my wife? ;)

Nice choices on the optics.

Drop me a PM when you're headed to Quantico. I shoot there often. Would be glad to meet-up with you there. I've got a new 260 that Kevin built that I will be anxious to shoot f-class with.

Finally decided on and ordered the color for Cerakote: Sniper Grey
Should look good with the stock.

Also, I had a piece of 12"x12" by 3/16" Kydex and made it into an adjustable cheek piece. I finished molding it and fitting it to the rifle last night. This is completely a dremel and hand drill job, but everything turned out very plumb/level and well fitted--took my time. Still it's a 10ft job...looks better at 10ft than at 2 feet...

Sorry for the quality of the pic...my memory card for camera bit the dust...cell phone pic will have to do...

Next steps are bedding and the load--again tonight when the kids are in bed...

Bedded the rifle last Wednesday. Mounted the Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 mildot and brought some Federal Fusion 165's to my "range" and broke in the barrel.

High reading on the chrono was 2818 and low was 2660 (I think). ES was 158 and Sd was something around 65 during break in.

Break in was fire one and clean for the first 5 shots. The first shot took 3 patches with KG12 Big Bore copper solvent followed by a patch or two of Hoppes and two dry patches--swabbing from 10-20 times each patch. This takes a long time, but I was trying to be patient and thorough.

First shot showed that looking through the bore and through the scope at a target in my back yard about 75 yards away had me pretty close to being on target at 50yards moved back to 100yards for shots 5-10:

The second shot took one swab from KG12 and the next swat showed almost no copper...Hoppes took a swab and two clean patches...

The rest were about the same...one to two swabs of KG12 max and one Hoppes and one dry...

After 5 shots the bore was as smooth as butter...that is to say it started "smooth" and got smoother...My old Tikka's bore wasn't nearly as smooth until after I used Tubbs on it...and maybe it's the broughton 5C rifling making the difference but this is tube is a pleasure to clean...

Didn't get to the OCW test yet. Only ten rounds down the tube.

Interesting thing was with my cheek on the cheek piece, the whole thing would sit and hum for a few seconds after each shot...if I had to get the note I would say it was F...but I'm not really a musician--but I'll bring my guitar tuner next time and see what it is...

Saturday or Sunday I should get some time for the OCW test at 100 yrds.

I was going to paint after doing load development...because I have a couple weeks where I have time to get to the range regularly...I've worked out a schedule with my wife. She wants me for the second weekend in Sept and I'm riding the third weekend...I will paint and bake in that time period. With scope she looks like a proper rifle, but I don't like the stainless/black mix ...thought I might but I don't. Sniper grey Cerakote is in my shop waiting for me to do loads, degrease and find my airbrush...

Is the paint done? obviously the scope is mounted. How about some new pics.
