Anyone used Hornady BTSP for long range hunting??

Has anyone used Hornady BTSP bullets for long range hunting? I am using 162 grain BTSP's in my 7MM Rem Mag and they shoot great out to 800 yards. I want to use them on mule deer and elk out to 700 yards. How will they perform at long range???

I wouldn't be concerned at those distances with a soft point. Should be like an inter lock bullet or accu-bond. That soft tip will smash pretty good at the speeds we can assume you are running them. I would be more concerned with an SMK not opening than a soft point.

I just read your other post about animal to be hunted. You will definitely get penetration and expansion in both. They are considerably heavier than whitetail and I know for a fact that soft points work wonders on them here in PA.

I dont know how helpful this is but the other day on the christensen arms show they were killing elk at over 800 yards with a 300 rum using hornady's interbond bullet. They were dropping in their tracks so I imagine the performance would be great with them.

For the long range, A-Max is the perfect solution, but don't use it on close or intermediate ranges...

I used them in my 338 rum and they worked best after slowing down out past 600 yds. Closer in they had a bit too much meat damage, but very accurate and the bc seemed higher than advertised.

We shoot the 140 out of a 270 Win and wouldn't hesitate on a 700 yard shot. (3200 MV) WE feel that is about the limit though!
