Hi im looking for a AR stlye rifle in either a 260 or 308..im on a budget of $1500..i dont have time for reloading so factory ammo is prolly my only choice....my farthest shot would prolly be 500yd...i mainly hunt coyote antelope whitetail...appreaciate the help..thanks

I like the .260 more, but you will probably have a better bullet selection with a .308.

I'll vote for the 260. You might not get the bullet selection of the 308, but the 140VLD for the 260 is tough to beat and only the heavy 308 bullets will match its BC. Given you want to shoot them in an AR, you could not seat the heavy 308 bullets out that far - taking up precious case space. Long way to say...260.

I'll break from the previous two and say 308, but only because you limit yourself to factory ammo. 308 has more selection of bullet type, weight, and brand than 260 in factory offerings, and those offerings are sold in more places. (Although I admit I don't know what's for sale in Guam.) I just got a 260, but I only did so because I'm starting to reload, too.

Thanks for the info...i m actually leaning towards the 260 for the flat shooting but i have had trouble finding a gun i saw DPMS had a couple..any other ideas?

I would also look at the 7/08.

It is a good all round cartrige and is capable of very long shots on game(500 to 700 yards)

On target it is great for 1000 yards and the bullet selection is from 90 grains to 190 grains.

A 1 in 9 twist will handle all 7 mm bullets.

Remington is chambering there R 25 in 7/08 and it already has a good reputation.

My next choice would be the 260 (A 308/708 size case necked down to 6.5).

There are other brands of AR 10s to chose from.

Good luck.

If you're limited to factory ammo then the .308 is your best option, by far.
