I have the chance to trade for this rifle but i've never owned a weatherby of any kind . So , can you fellas tell me what this gun is worth it has a bushnell banner scop on it .

Also can this action be used to turn this rifle into an .338 Edge ?

Thanks for your insite .

It can be made into any cartrige and will work for most as is.

What 7mm is it chambered in? That will determine what the bolt face size is.

Unfortunately scopes don't add very much value to a good rifle and you can rarely
get what they are worth on a rifle.

So start with the bare rifle = I would say if it is in good shape it should be worth
$600.00 to $700.00. If it was in the 378 based weatherby calibers it would be
worth more. The reason is that they are normally on more expensive rifles and
require less work if you want to build a larger case head cartrige ( .579+ ).

The scope is only worth what you are willing to give for it based on condition and
original price.

I hope this helped you.

Thanks JE I had looked at weatherby's site and they all seemed to be pretty high dollar . So your $600.00 to $700.00 is an eye opener for sure. I haven't seen it yet but i was told it is like new and been shot a total of 10 rounds through it . I wish it was the bigger caliber because i'm going to step up to the Edge in the future .

I had a Mark V deluxe chambered in 7mm weatherby mag (Japanese made I think). I bought it used with about a half box of ammo through it and in nearly new condition with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40 scope and a box and a half of ammo for $700 about six or seven years ago. The rifle was very accurate and a pleasure to look at but after I bought it I just didn't want to hunt with it. I took the scope off and traded the rifle and the shop allowed my about $550 or so on a new rifle in 300WSM. This is just my own thoughts but I think Weatherby rifles are way overpriced.

Maybe see if you can shoot it first. My experience with the different Weatherby's I've had is it's a crap shoot on how well they shoot.

My first WBY was a MkV 7wby mag and it was probably the worst shooting rifle I have ever owned. I have owned a MkV 257Wby that was maybe a 1.5in at 100yds which isn't that great but my buddy has a MkV 257wby also and his will shoot 1/2in groups at 100yds all day long. Currently have a MkV 240wby that is from the custom shop that struggles to shoot 1.75in groups at 100yds, a Accumark 300wby mag, that will shoot 1/2 groups at a 100 with ease, in fact my 300Wby is EASILY the best shooting factory rifle I have EVER owned, and a Accumark 338-378 that will pretty easily shoot 3/4in groups at a 100.

So I would say shoot the thing if you can then decide if you still want it. Just because they cost more new doesn't always mean the shoot well.

Thanks fellas for your replies It has helped give me a better ideah I've herd other folks say that they are over priced all of the rifles on weatherby's website that I looked at were very high dollar for factory rifles the cheepest one was around 1,200 and the went up to 1,699 . I just though maybe i could get a good deal on it and sell it for some cash to go toward a NFscope but it doesn't look like the way to go at this time .

Thanks bigbuck
