Pulled some tags!!!!! Drew a cow elk B so I have a bull and a cow to get then drew my doe so a buck and at least one doe. Then also drew a buck and doe antelope!

I can finally put does and a cow in the freezer and then do a little horn hunting for the first time in years gun)Ya, I'm jacked big time

Congrats! I made space in my freezer just in case you need help in that area.

I didn't do well in my special draws, just E-S antelope tag ... but still have plenty of opportunities.

Here are my results. Not so good. My wife didn't get an antelope tag either, but she did get her cow tag. BG, now can she get a bull too? Sorry we are still trying to learnd these rules. The deer tags really have us confused, deer A , Deer B , white tail, muley. Is there a way to shoot a Muley and a WT?? The owner of the ranch and his wife didn't get an antelope tag either. Guess we will just keep feeding them and let them grow. So I will be on guard duty again...

Broz, if you draw a cow B tag for an area then you don't forfit your bull tag unless it's an area that you have to. It changed in a lot of areas to be similar to the deer tags. But there are areas that you would have had to apply for a bull tag also.
You really have to look at the elk areas this year, some you have to draw for a bull and a cow but are unlimited, some are either brown is down on DNRC and private ground only! There will be a bunch of guys screw this up this year.

You really have to carefully read the regs and ask questions this year and know where your hunting, we have been going over them and calling the game warden to get clarification and in a couple cases we knew more than him!

Did you not apply as a land owner for the antelope tags, they are a sure deal and you can designate an alternate also.
You shoot a whitetail almost anywhere and the mulies changed a little in some areas in that you had to designate your tag. You can alway get a whitetail doe multi region over the counter.

Yes the regs in this state can be very confusing!!! Its best to make sure you keep good track of the areas you plan on hunting. In some places in MT you can go buy up to 6 or 7 deer b tags and also kill a extra buck with one of them and not have to use your A tag. You just have to look it up. IIRC last year you could buy up to 5 extra B tags in our area. They just like to make everything complicated....

The land owner apps go in at the same time as the general so your to late this year. I believe you have to have 160+ acres in the area you are applying for to qualify but it is a a sure tag.

General Elk License.
• Sep 04 - Oct 17 – Brow-tined Bull or Antlerless Elk. Archery Only Season.
• Oct 23 - Nov 28 – Brow-tined Bull Elk.
– Brow-tined Bull or Antlerless Elk. Only youth ages 11-15
and hunters with a PTHFV.

392-80: 175 licenses. Only valid in south portion of HD from Duck Crk to

An elk permit has to be used with a general elk licence the elk B is a seperate tag as you don't even need to have a general elk tag to get the elk B.

Yes, your wife could shoot a brow tine bull also. The elk B is just like the buck tag and doe B tag.
Notice the Youth and PTHFV can shoot cows or brow tine bulls, we lobbied real hard to get this in place so our young hunters can go hunt and have good succes, a small group of use worked hard to stay involved and work with FWP and they will listen if your not getting in there face but trying to work with them as sportsmen and stewards of the land!
I'm real happy with the regs, they are more complicated but with it comes with more management tools. We'll have these regs for 2 years with minor changes.

Landowner Preference​

• Montana landowners (resident
and nonresident) may qualify for
preference in the license/permit
drawings for deer, elk, and antelope.
• In order to claim landowner preference
for deer B, deer permit, and/or
antelope drawings, a landowner must
own or be contracting to purchase at
least 160 contiguous acres of land
within the hunting district applied for.
If the license/permit is only valid for
a portion of the hunting district, the
landowner must own land within that
portion and the land must be used
primarily for agricultural purposes.
• In order to claim landowner preference
for the elk B license and/or elk permit
drawings, a landowner must own or
be contracting to purchase at least
640 contiguous acres of land within a
district regularly used by elk for one or
more seasonal activities. If the license/
permit is only valid for a portion of the
hunting district, a landowner must
own land within that portion to claim
preference.
• A landowner may designate his/her
preference to a member of his/her
immediate family (blood or marriage
related) or a ranch manager (paid
employee who has state, federal, or​

FICA taxes withheld from pay). Only
