I'm thinking about getting a remington sps in 17 fireball for groundhogs, crows, coyotes, foxes, cats, and maybe coons. Anyone have any luck with this caliber? and how does it do on them? I want them dead there without running but would like to keep the pelt with less damage as possible. Dont care if it messes up crows or groundhogs but let me know how it does thanks

The 17 Fireball is hell on wheels!! I purchased a 700 SPS varmint almost two years ago and I love it. I chopped off 4" of barrel making it 22" and put it in a H-S stock and added a timney trigger( the stock trigger was not adjustable and was very heavy, 6lbs.) It will handle anything you listed but for coyotes I would recommend the Berger 25 gr. target bullet not the varmint bullet or the 30 gr.Kindler Gold. Both bullets shoot .5 moa. You won't regret buying one!!

You will really like it. I have a custom 700 17MachIV(which is same as 17fb) with a 1:9 twist Lilja bbl on it shooting 30gr Golds from Todd Kindller (Woodchuck Den). They will put down what you hit fast, It's what I use for my coyote calling rifle, and is also great on prarie dogs. I'm running them over 3800 fps and on the Sierra ballistic software that is as good or better than a 22-250 out to 500yds. Good luck and have fun.

I haven`t killed anything with my .17 MK1V yet, but have taken alot with a .17 AH and a .17 Rem. The .17 MK1V will do all you want if you use the proper bullet and load. Never used the Kindllers, but have heard good things about them. I like the Berger bullets. Use the MEF`s with lite loads for coon, but due not use them on groundhog size game and up. I like the terminal preformance of the Calhoon bullets on groundhogs and up ( they teae a coon appart). The problem with Calhoons is that your gun will eather shoot them well or very very bad.
