Wow! I'm so glad they all made it out of there with no serious injuries or loss of life. Good that they had practiced evacuation drills.

I hope they are able to put the folks back to work soon.

Sounds like it happened in a document storage area, it will be interesting to hear what triggered the explosion and what was the explosive material.

Yep. They let some of the non production workers back already. Even named a contractor for the repair..................BUT..... At nearly 1,000,000 bullets per day (and theyve been ''down'' how long?) its gonna take a while to recover.
Im a HUGE Nosler fan and I want em' up and runnin asap. But the reality of it all is that even yesterday the local news said that an employees firearm ''was the cause''.........I ask; 1) how, 2) what did it ignite to cause an explosion that large, 3) How did any firearm in a controlled environment (balistics test lab) not to mention a non-compressed environment do anything other than pop. ??? Somebody's not commin clean IMO, and I for one dont think any real production will take place untill its cleared up.
I just wish I had more Nosler bullets stored up to hold out untill production is re established and the shelves are re stocked. I have NO plans to bail on my favorite bullets and manufacturer even if it takes a long time. I just hope they are up and runnin soon. Besides, I gotta go back down to the custom shop again to get my Redding dies at a lower price than I can find anywhere else, and see if the BLR 325WSM I wanted is there on consignment still.

winmag, I thought they first reported the explosion took place in a document storage area but, based on your post did it take place in the Ballistic lab area? Not sure how far apart Redmond is from Bend but, I guess your getting the latest info from the local news...yes?

It takes me about 15 min to get to Noslers parking lott from my house.... as long as I dont stop at Sportsmans Warehouse (whole sale sports here now) on the way.

Nosler employees have the ability to use the range (balistics test lab) down stairs, and all the data recording equipment, in the ''basement'' wich is to the west of the Custom shop, and almost directly below the production facility, from the way I understand it.

So how, unless someone had a ''hangfire'', then burried the round in a compressed 55gallon bbl of powder then put it in a room with in-adequate vent tube.....
Couldnt happen.
Having built Sportsmans Warehouses all over the western U.S. I can tell you that ANYTIME powder, or firearms are involved there are a NUMBER of hoops to jump thru to even get a signature from an A.T.F official/inspector, and a State Explosives inspector, not to mention that Homeland security is tied in with these agencies now, and all this has to take place PLUS meet local and state building codes and Fire Marshal approval before you can even get a T.C.O. (Temp. Cert. of Occupancy) to even let employees come in the building to stock a store. Then when all the signatures are there you get a final inspection for C. of O. for letting customers in the bldg.
Something aint jiving here. These guys cross thier ''T's'' and dot thier ''I's''. They dont let anyone slide. Ever. From the way ''explosives'' are stored and labled to the building itself.
Im just not buying it. An employees rifle caused the explosion just doesnt cut it.

Will do. I just hope they get up and runnin soon. Not only for bullets etc. But Nosler does alot for the community. Theyre a great company.

I have no more information than what I read on the web but I have seen a bit of explosive effects in buildings.

That one looks like a gas leak explosion to me.

+1. It had to be IMO, caused by something other than powder. A gas leak, and source of ignition is the best possible explination for 2 levels + the roof.
To do that with loading powder would be virtually impossible even under the best circumstances.

+2 that is the first thing that came to my mind. I wonder why they are being so hush-hush? I bet their OSHA fines are gunna hurt.

I think the reason things are so hush hush is they have alot of government contracts.
I have over 20 boxs of all the nosler bullets I use so IM good for awhile
