Has anyone shot the .338 Barnes Tipped TSX yet, know approx B.C., or have a starting load for a .338 Edge I will have my new Defensive Edge Canyon Rifle here this coming week and curious about this bullet for a second load. My primary will obviously be with the 300 grain SMK but am thinking of doing something lighter and faster with still a high B.C. and maybe with not so much expansion. If I do ever draw my Rocky Mountain Goat tag I'd hate to blow holes in the cape.:D

I shoot 210 TTSX's out of my .338 RUM. They are a pretty sweet bullet. Shot two black bears this spring with them and they worked great. I cant remember the B.C off hand but It's in the mid .4's. I think .451 G1. Its on the barnes web site anyway.
With 96.5 grains RL 22 I get 3390 fps and am 3.5 MOA low at 400 yards. after that I use the 300 SMK. I was actually suprised running the numbers on the two. The 300 SMK (MV of 2764) passes the 210 TTSX at about 900 yards for drop (but the SMK destroys it with windage and energy/momentum).

The TTSX 225 grain has a BC of .514 and is the best of the Barnes TTSX bullet for long range IMHO. The newer 265 and 285 give up to much velocity and do not have a high enough BC to best the 225TTSX to 1K

I shoot the 225 TTSX in my .340wby, according to my ballistics tables the BC is pretty close to what Barnes claims but I have only tested them out to 800.

I just started working up a load for my 338 Ultra mag with the 225s using RL 25. With 97.5grs I am pushing them out at 3350 fps. My first test loads were .050 off the lands.

How are you guys seating them?

Care to expand on that?
From what Barnes says the 265 will have a BC of .610-.620?

Edit
Just talked to Ty at Barnes and the finalized BC is .575.....Which since I have 20 Boxes....Sucks

Gnergy,

That is a smokin fast load. What length is your barrel? I haven't tried RL 25 yet, 19 and 22 have done very well for me accuracy wise.

30 inch Broughton with a Muscle brake on it.
I am going to try some Retumbo next because JE says RL25 is unstable at higher temps.
Called around and nobody has any Retumbo so I am going to try some AA 4350 (because I already have some )
Why doesen't anybody use Accurate Arms powders. I use AA powders in my .338 JDJ Contender and my 25-06 and with the 180 Nosler BT's in my 338 Ultra mag.

That is my point the BC for the 265 grain is not enough to offset the velocity advantage of the 225 TTSX bullet to 1k.
I can get 3200 FPS out of my 338 Lapua with the 250 grain SMK

What I know about the TSX is terminal performance. I don't know about the BC, SD or much else for that matter, 2007 I knocked over a huge bodied interior Alaska bull moose at well over 300yds, recovered only one bullet that ran through most of him hard quartering away and found the slug in far shoulder during skinning. Just like all other Barnes Bullets I've recovered, 100 % weight retention but that includes dried meat under pedals. Rolled or rather pole-axed two mature Alaska Brown bears. Again, one with a hard quartering shot on the run 285+ yds piled him up 100% weight retained and found in far shoulder next to hide. Love them, don't need any other with that kind of performance. Back to Kodiak this fall and it'll be with the 338 and Barnes. No I'm not sponsored by Barnes, but I do enjoy collecting those pretty bullets from very much dead large animls.

My brother did an Africa hunt about a year and a half ago. The African guide favored bullet is the Barnes, also they do not do a lot of long range shooting there. The 338 is look on with good favor, right under the 375 H&H. 300 mags. are not favorably looked on for larger game.
