I know that there are alot of 7 mag shooters out there, and was wondering what you guys are using to get the best accuracy out of your berger 180 VLD's.

Right now I go them to shoot very well at 100 yrds.
Using:
68gr H-1000
CCI 250
WIN Brass
.015 off the lands
2840 fps

What velocities are you guys getting?

Thanks in Advance

I asked a similar question a few months ago and didn't get much response. Seem most are shooting the 168 grn. in their 7 mags. I'm currently waiting for my 7 mag to be built and then plan on doing some load development. You might get more velocity with Retumbo over the H1000.

QuickLOAD models 7mm Mag loads rather well. For your load I get a predicted MV of 2828 fps which is pretty close. With RL25 and 150g bullets I've been getting predicted MV within 30 fps of measured.

With that as background, QL says the best MV will be possible with:

These are QL results, I've not shot any of them. They are predicted max loads, back off at least 4g and work up:

N570 73g max 2947 fps
Hodgdon Retumbo 72.2g 2917 fps
N560 64.5g 2874
RL25 66.6g 2868 fps
IMR7828SSC or IMR7828 64.2g 2867
H1000 68.8g 2862 fps

I have some 180g Berger VLD's and plan to try them with Retumbo since I have some of it. I don't know when that will be. I don't really need a heavier bullet load than the 150g TTSX that shoots into tiny groups for whitetail and am trying to keep the round count down in this rifle. I also have some RL25 if the Retumbo won't give me good groups. I go for group size. I measure MV to track how well QL is working and to have a basis for using ballistic SW to get a trial set of scope settings and for setting up BulletFlight.

Good I am right on the money then. The load that I posted above shoots consistently under a half inch at 100 yards. Best group being .187 on a 3-shot CTC.
