New Edge Arrived

I guess there is nothing like xmas in May when little brown truck pulled up thursday with my new 338 Edge. I spent thursday eve. admiring it and friday only had time to shoot 1 group after work before it got dark. I was very lucky to have a gunsmith like Travis Redell that took a lot of the fun out of a new build by breaking in the barrel and working the load for the 300 SMK as his standard package. He included a whopping target of a 3 shot group at 100 yards at .122, and i was able to go out and fire a .331. I cant believe how these edges will shoot. My build was very good i made 2 new friends Travis Redell of rbrosrifles and Tim at Broughton barrels. These 2 guys made me feel like my new build was there own project. Thanks guys Travis actually had my gun out the door in 3 weeks after he received the barrel. Today it rained all day hoping tommorow i can take the new toy out and drag race some bullets.

Was able to go shooting today and very impressed with the edge. I have only been a member on this site for little over a year and previous never heard of the 338 Edge. I couldnt believe at first reading threads and post how a caliber like this shooting a 300 bullet would perform this well. Afer a few months went by figured there had to be something to it and jumped on the bandwagon. Fired 5- 3 shot groups at 100 1 at .264 , 3 in the 3's, and largest was a .460. Pretty bad you get ****ed at shooting a 1/2" group. I havent shot anything heavier than a 257 whby in 25 years and of course dont like recoil. Even with a brake i had a bag placed between the gun and my shoulder until my last group. It made a difference giving me a smaller group measuring ,264 and recoil was less than my 257 whby. This gun is a pleasure and a lot of fun to shoot. Now i know its time to go some yardage and really make her perform. Travis fired a 4" group at 1040 yards before shipping i know there is no doubt it can be done. I was hoping to get a little more vel. average is around 2750 using 93 grains of H-1000 with 300 SMK.

That velocity does seem low. What did you use to determin the MV? I am comparing it to my Lapua with a 300 smk and 92.5gr of h-1000 in a 27 1/2" 10 twist and I get over 2800. But you have more twist and a new barrel. Mine has close to 800 down it.

Never the less, it really does not matter. Point of impact is king in my book. That 300 smk will have more that enough stored energy to do anything you want with authority at 2750.

Ced 2, Travis told me earlier that these Broughton barrels after some rounds thru them will pick up some vel. Im showing no sign of pressure could probably go up but the darn things shoots so well. Yes its time to stop at 100 and go shooting.
