A day out shooting with Trebark

Today, like many saturdays, Trebark picked me up in the morning to head out for a day of shooting. First we hit Clark Brothers (local range) to sight in my new sightron SIII 6-24X50 mounted on my .308win and put my falcon optics menace on my 300 win mag and Matt chronoed some new loads for his .280 rem.

Then we headed out to my parent's place to shoot some longer range. We set up the steel at 254 yards (furthest range we could see from the shed). Actually, let me refrase that, Trebark stood in the shed, while I set up the freakin target, got tires to weight it down, then went and got some water jugs to set up as well. Oh, did i mention it was absolutely POURING rain??
So then i got back, all is well, im dripping wet, my t-shirt and pants are literly saturated with water and so then we start shooting the steel for a while. Rather uneventful, then shoot some water jugs.
Once we're done shooting i once again go and disassemble the targets, again in the pouring rain, pick up the blown apart jugs, and roll the tires off to the side. Then we load everything into the car and Trebark drives it over to the house and grabs the other 4wheeler to park it in the shed. So there i am, in the shed and here comes Trebark driving along with his LRH T-shirt and purple umbrella.... i am still annoyed that i didnt have my camera handy.... would have made for a very nice photo .

overall a very good day, lots of fun and a satisfiying shooting session before exam study and exam time.

Correction, "if she was 6'2", " and really, really ugly. Looks like fun boys! I like the brown much better on that stock, but I must admit purple would have looked better in the Mary Poppins theme.

Oliver you don't look like like the skinny, acne riddin teenager I had painted you as in my mind ;-)... The internet is a wonderful thing. Well the block layers are commin tomorrow. Time for me to go play in the rain!

chas, i dont really mind getting wet just thought it was pretty darn funny how much trebark hates water . Gonna need all the luck i can get with my exams, either that or get off LRH and study.... hmm guess which one i picked?

Hey Oliver, Great pics. Looks MISERABLE, but fun. If you ever get out to Oregon, look me up. I have a Jeep to drive back and forth to the targets, and a warm DRY place for you to crash in the evening. Heehehe. Did you look into Idaho for Elk? Theres always the O.T.C. Elk tag here, but the critters seem bigger and more abundant in Idaho if the wolves havent desimated them all. Less hunting pressure and more liberal season too. $ for $ out of state hunting in Idaho blows Oregon away.
Im pretty sure Treebark and I have simmilar taste when it comes to foul weather. I HATE rain!!!!!!!!!! Im pretty sure rain and sleet are Gods way of telling me to STAY INSIDE. (Unless its hunting season, then all bets are off). Snow, Cold, Hot, Dry, Rain,Wind, Sleet, Overcast, Blue sky and everything inbetween is Central Oregon in the spring. If you dont like the weather, wait 5-10 minutes, and it'll change. Sucks for shooting, but at least I can get sun on the smae day as rain.

Hey Im goin ''home'' to Eastern Oregon in August for fall Bear. P.M. me. Im curious what your plans are for Aug. So far its only me and 2 buddies. 1 more would make 2 pair, and we could cover more country. Big and Steep country in Hells Canyon. HOT too. We hunt the breaks of the Snake River. Verticle is an understatement, but its chalk full of bears. Im goin scoutin this weekend. Ill let you know what I see. Hopefull we have a late bloom on the Huckel berries this year.

Well like Trebark had said, rain is the best wind flag. So I didn't mind all too much. Sure setting up the target in the pouring rain sucked but at least the firing position was dry!
Yes I looked into Idaho briefly, not very indepth. Oregon has O.T.C. Elk?? That would be great. I'd so much rather go hunt with you than to Idaho where I don't know anyone and would just sort of be stumbling around looking for elk. I don't really care much about the size of antlers, in an elk hunt I'm in it for the experience. Plus if I shoot the bigges elk in the woods on my first go, what fun is coming back

I'm not home right now, but I'll send you a pm in the next hours. I'll talk to my parents. I don't know when school starts but I do know I'm gone the start of august.

+1, I was curious about that as well.

Ya Oregon has O.T.C. tags for elk, but theres a reason theyre O.T.C. Your either in the elk or your not, they have a 3-5 day migration circle that gets all weirded out from lots of hunter pressure. hahaha. I dont hunt the west side. But in Central Oregon theres a couple places where you can shoot any bull with an O.T.C. tag. Most all of Eastern Oregon is draw only for branch bull tags, and O.T.C. for spike only.
Like I said $ for $ Idaho is WAY better hunting, and WAY more friendly to out of state hunters. But if you dont know anything about the area, you usually spend a season or two learning the area, and habbits of the critters before you smoke one.
I will NOT guarantee success in Or. But if you wanna hunt elk O.T.C. here Ill take you. Bring your dad. Well set up my wall tent and make a week of it. (asuming work opportunitys and the new baby dont interfere too much) Baby isnt due till Dec 17th, and theres 2 O.T.C. Elk seasons to choose from in November. Just p.m. me so I dont keep hi-jacking your thread.

It is a Quickset Hercules tripod and head. Rather than mount a camera on it, I bolted a 12"x36"x3/4" piece of plywood on top. It is an awesome platform because it can adjust for any terrain.
