Re#25 and the 270WSM

I think its a bit slow, dont you currently use RL-22? For some reason I thought Id seen a post of yours with that or RL-19. I love 62 gr of RL-19,and grouped sub moa all the way to 64 gr, sut 62 realy shined brightest. Ive hered of guys using RL-17, but not RL-22. Are you shootin 140's or 150's? I'd guess the heavier the bullet the better RL-22 would work in the 270wsm, but I just dunno.

I was mostly using Mag Pro. Lately its been so difficult getting powder. Local gun shop had a couple cans of Re#25.Upon reading a post on Reloadersnest.com that a shooter really liked the stuff. So I thought I'd give it a try. So tomorrow I'll trying 69 and 70grs behind a Sierra GK 140 gr.Also try a stiff load of IMR 7828 (65.1 grs) behind same bullet. My rifle has a muzzle brake on it. You might be able to hear it up there in Oregon. If these Loads don't produce MOA at 100 yds. I'm gonna seriously consider putting out $500 bucks for a custom bbl installation.

Ya Ive hered mixed results with magpro. Love/Hate. just wonderin if you read the post on seating depth by.....Eaglet I think. he was using the same loads on like three different seating depths and said you couldnt even tell the groups came from the same rifle! He had some meathod like or same as Berger, for adjusting seating depth for accuracy. Apparently it works well. I need to read it again.
But on the other hand, a new pipe is always a cool backup plan! Good luck, and post your results so I can learn something new with out having to try it myself:D

Today's brief range report Tried 4 powder's with 140 gr Bullets.( Sierra GK and Berger VLD) Re# 22 & 25 IMR 7828 Mag pro. Amazing how one load will produce high velocity in one rifle and same load in another over 200 FPS slower. That happened today with Re#22 and Imr 7828 . Both were under MOA in accuracy but low velocity.. Then tried max load and a grain above max load with Re#25 Producing 3,125 with 3/4 MOA at 100 yds. Then max load of Mag pro and it produced a whopping 3,350 and 1 1/2 MOA at 100 yds. All other powders show increase potential. Re#25 was the winner today.

My 270WSM has a Lawton barrel and I tried alot of different powders. I got real good velocity with Mag-Pro and H-1000, R-22 was OK. I finally setttled on R-17 and soon as the weather gets better going to load some for the 300WSM see how that does.

So is your barrel cut rifled ? How long ? Re#17 shines with 110 V-max,yesterday out of a 24"bbl I was pushing 110 V-maxs with 67grs of Re#17 3,540 average. I'm gonna experiment with Re#25 some more. Mag pro produced inconsistent accuracy and velocity spikes.

It's cut barrel 25" long one that Barney did not sure how those barrel are not that he's gone. Since I never shot a factory 270WSM don't have data to compare the custom to. I'm getting mid 3100fps with 150gr bullets with max of 60grs and one day was out playing with some 140gr bullets and R-17 worked up to 61gr got some real small groups. Tell you the truth I haven't chronograph that load yet used that load last year on antelope hunt also shot afew PD.

Congrats on your RL-25 load. Sounds like it has potential! I have no idea what velocity my load shoots as I dont have a chronny, but Im kinda glad I dont. I tend to be a bit of a ''speed freak''. If I think I can get more out of it Ill try. So shooting for the most accurate load thats ''stated faster than factory is stated'' makes me feel good. But I would like to get one someday to see how consistant I load.
Keep us posted on your results. Thanks for posting

Ya gotta know for sure how fast your loads are shooting. for hold over at extended ranges. Weather effect velocity. Not very often is listed velocity the same as reality in my rifles with exact same load.

My personal ability realy starts to dwindle past 600yds, so for now my personal ability, and my personal ''cutoff'' for kinetic energy of aprox 1500 ft lbs give or take mach up great with my rifle and bullets(270wsm 140gr Accubonds) and ability. Ive never used a chronny or load program or any other softwear. I dont even know how. But based on obviously inflated numbers from manufacturers, and load books Im close enough to make an educated guess. NO I DONT HUNT THAT WAY. I dope my drops and compare them to my hold over reticle on my Burris.(no thats not exact either) but Ive gathered alot of data for myself by just shooting ALOT and digging bullets out of self built dirt backstops. Ive had ''on'' days and smoked a 1qt oil jug(empty) at 850 yds cranking up my scope with my ''educated guess'' meathod. It works because I shoot alot and keep track of my data. Is the computer program meathod more accurate? Of course it is. Do I have the equipment to take advantage of it? Maybe, if you wanna mess with standard turrits. My point is simply this. Inflated numbers or not Im sure Im faster than stated factory ammo. So I can use ''standard'' drop charts and my own real life data from real life experience from alot of shooting, and compare to poi vs poa on my hold over reticle and be real darn close. At least as close as I can be with my ability to read wind etc. Wich is why I stop at or before 600 for game, and practice farther. I dont need a chronny and a computer to tell me where I can accurately shoot to with my current setup. I practice and record data for that.
But the more I get into this sport, the more I see the need for tools like a chronny, and computer programs. When I get the equipment thats compatable with the tools (ie;wind meter and mark 4 scope for my 300wby) and better my ability Ill look into it more. Unfortunately $ is extremely tight right now, so Im gonna do it old school and keep writing it down. When $ is better Ill upgrade and buy some more tools to make my job as trigger man ALOT easier.
