Has anyone took the 30 -378 weatherby an necked it down to 7mm? What length barrel did you use? How many rounds down the tube? What type of velocities did you get?

I have not but have experience with it because a buddy I shot with in Colorado did one. Don't even go there. The 30 is way to overbore and barrels don't last long. The 7mm is way worse. I don't think he got 300 rounds through it before a bore scope showed considerable erosion. His velocities and accuracy was excellent for a little while though. His pushed 162 grain bullets 3650 fps. I built two 7mm-300 ultramags for my personal use and they didn't last very long either. I still have two 31" match barrels chambered in 7mm-300 ultramag that I haven't bothered to put on and hope to sale. The 378 case should not be taken below 338 in my opinion for any kind of barrel life.

I once took a 416 Rigby case and squeezed her down to .284 and improved it.

The first picture is the .284-.416 Rigby Improved.

The second picture is a .30-.416 Rigby Improved that I am currently shooting.

Yeah, it's a ton of work forming brass, but the .30 is killer accurate shooting the 240 SMK. This particular rifle has gone in single digits at 1,760 yards.

There's not much I haven't tried over the years...

We tried the full length 7mm/416, and it is too much capacity in 7mm bore. We actually lost velocity compared with the 7mm/338 Lapua improved. There just isn't a slow enough burning powder available to make this sort of chambering work. The 7mm/338 Lapua improved like Kirby's 7mm AM or our 7mm Super Fatso is the maximum workable capacity in 7mm at the moment. It is superb long range hunting cartridge, that with 869 ball powder gives very acceptable barrel life. Just don't put too much 50BMG down them, that gets rid of barrels real quick compared with 869!

for an eastern hunter its very easy to build a gun that exceeds our ability to see hits. and that would include those with very good glasses judd.
most guys i know with the big cannons are still sitting on the smaller cannon lookouts. theres a reason for that.

Not even close to knowing what this was suppose to mean? Please explain...

I commenting on the mans gun...not commenting on the ethics of being able to spot a shot or not. The shots I took with the gun were more then spottable and that was before I had my "good glasses"
