I was wondering what is the ideal powder for the 300 win mag with 185-210gr bullets. Which brass seems to be better quality, norma or nosler? Also any pet loads would be appreciated. Thanks

H-1000 is my go to powder for the 300 Win case. With a CCI 250 or a Fed GM215M and a 210 Berger close to the lands.
I would start at 74 gr and work up 1 gr at a time. Usually in a 26" barrel I find a sweet spot there or just above if the rifle will let you go up in powder charge.
Cant help you on those two brass selections, but I saw some RWS for sale on Snipers Hide a while back. In my opinion the only thing better than RWS is Lapua which is not made anymore.

I found some 300win mag lapua factory ammo. I take it that is would be loading in lapua brass, right?

I have been getting great results with H1000, cci 250 primers, winchester brass, and 190 gr berger vld. Start out at about 74 and go up from there to a max of about 79.5grains. Bullets seated 0.015 from the lands. I am also doing some testing with retumbo and some other bullets.

I know it depends on the rifle, but are you guys able to load your bullets close to the lands while still being able to feed from the magazine? Thanks for all the suggestions, I have both retumbo H1000 so Im happy about that. Thanks

I am loading H-1000, CCI 250 mag primers, remington brass and 180 grain barnes ttsx bullets. As others have stated start low and work your way up. I found where the max was. I am loading 2 grains below max. The barnes bullets are seated .04 off the lands. My gun has a wyatts box mag so oal is not a problem.

Ovatafford, I have never had a problem getting to the lands with a factory mag box and 210 Bergers. This includes two 300 wins that were chambered with standard match reamers and also a few 700 Senderos I have worked up the load for. I better add , please start low with the powder charge of H-1000. One of the senderos started showing pressure signs at about 75.5 gr. It shoots very well and is now happy at 74.6 gr and we shoot it to 1400 yards.
But others are just as happy at 77 gr. So there is no way to know what your rifle will like other than starting low and working up.
If you have some Lapua Headstamp brass you have the best brass you can get for this rifle. IMHO, and if you feel any reason to use something else I will be glad to buy your Lapua brass from you...

I am working on my 300 win at this very moment. I have a 700 26" barrel. I just got done shooting 50 lapping bullets so now I am working on my load again. I am up to 75 grains of H4831 with 200 gr. Accubonds. I just got done shooting my first 5 .003 off the lands and it didnt shoot too well so I am going to load another 5 to verify it wasn't me then work my was out I suppose. I will let you know when I get it done.

I use WW that I sort for neck thickness and generally in 300 WM more than 90% (I think it was 95/100) is within my 0.002" variation standard. Probably more likley 90% is within 0.0015". I turn mine just to touch the high spots, but this brass unturned has shot 1/2 moa often enough. Turned was marginally better as I don't cull out the 0.002's.
If you cull mercilessly, you should get great results with WW and probably for a lot less cost than RWS.
I've used Norma in my 375 H&H and found it generally great (consistency), but the primer pockets loosened very quickly and my loads are not particulalrt heavy I don't think. I've seen it said that in various chamberings the Norma brass is softer in the head area, but my experience is limited to the 375 H&H.

Hi Mike! That seems like a stout load are you seeing any pressure signs or have you run any quick load data to see what kind of pressure this produces?
I wanted to try H-4831 but some of my manuals showed 68 gr Max with 200 gr bullets.

My Rem 700 XCR Long Range Tactical, with a 26" tube, likes 74.0 grains of H-1000, win brass turned, with a Win Large Rifle primer (all I had during load development), 180 grain Sierra GK, almost touching, shoots 0.5 to 0.75 MOA all day long.
I haven't tried magnum primers, but I just picked up some CCI 250's to see if they tighten up at all.
Another load that worked well was H-4350 and 150 grain Sierra GK, shot pretty good.

My lymann and nosler manual both list 70.5 grains of H4831 as max. The first sign of pressure I had was primer pockets getting a little loose at 75.5 grains after about 3 reloads so I backed off to 75 and have not had any issues at all. bolt lift is good no head expansion not shiny spots on the case head my velocity looks good too. im at 2940 fps. I do have my bullet seated way out so my powder capacity is a little more than average. it just barely fits in my magazine. But it is shooting good I am still tinkining with it but I feel like my 75 grains is safe. I am very cautious of pressure cause its not worth the risk to me.
