Hey yall

I plan on buying a new rifle soon, hopefully in 375 SnipeTac or 416 barrett and have no idea what scope to go with it. Budget isnt a big issue, I just need to know what kind of magnification Ill need to shoot about 2500 yds. Im looking at a variable power 4.5-14x50 Leupold VXL with illuminated duplex. Will that work?

I think you will want more than that. I've got a NF 8-32X on order for my build that is in process and it is only a 1000 yard hunting gun. You can't hit what you can't see. There are problems with to much magnification sometimes but I'd want at least 20X and more if it was me. Depends what kind of precision you are looking for. Are you shooting at vermin at 2500 yards or car sized boulders?

I use a 6.5-20 leupy for my sporter weight carry gun. I like to see what I'm shooting at.

So do I. I'll take great resolution over more power any day and the S&B has that. and it has the elevation travel to get down range in fact it was designed for 2000+ yards

What do yall think about the Nikko Stirling 10-50x60 scope? Is it any good?

Obviously, it has ridiculous zoom numbers, but how is Nikko Stirling? The reason I ask is that I have a friend looking to sell one.

I would do a Viper before the Husk, but that's my opinion. I just think the Viper had much better optics and that was on a pre-production demo model even. No info on the Nikko, sorry.

I would like to know which rangefinder you plan on using for 2500 yards? In my opinion the 14 power would be suitable for targeting semi trucks at 2500 yards. I'm thinking no less than a 32 power would be a good place to start.

Well, I will be hunting with a friend, so I dont know what rangefinder he has. He assures me he has one though.

However, that is an interesting opinion. What 32x scopes do you reccomend? The only one Ive ever run across is the Nikko Stirling, though I am, admittedly, no expert on scopes.

While those look sweet, Id love to just know if I have any other options. I know they might not quite meet the 32x mark but what about Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50?

I will probably go with the NXS series from Nightforce, but again, would love some options

For a 375 Snipetac or 416 Barrett I would have to choose one of these.
8-32x56 & 12-42x56

I would use one of these mainly because Leupold doesn't make anything in these power ranges in a variable.

ever notice that the 8X32 and 12X42 don't have the necessary veticle adjustment for 2500 yards?

A high resolution scope like the 5X35 S&B will get the job done nicely. A Canadian Sniper took out an Alquaida with a 5.5X22 NSX at 2700 yards in Afganastan.

These 32 and higher power scopes are best suited to competition IMHO and experience

What do yall think of Cloud Peak?

Stocks & Optics

I could buy a relatively cheap scope (maybe the Niko Stirling?) with some great zoom and theyll fix it up for about 400 bucks. This make any sense? To me it does, but, if Ive learned one thing from this thread, its that I know nothing about scopes.

I you are serious about 2500 yards then you better forget the bargin basement and get the best scope that you can afford

In your opening post you stated that the price was not a problem
