My New 300 Win Build

I decided about a year ago after shooting a new custom that a friend built I needed something like it. A full Custom, light enough to carry with ease, heavy enough to take game to 1000 yards + with precise bullet placement. It was finished and I picked her up today. This rifle is my idea a the perfect Big Game Hunting Rifle. As of right now, I would not change one thing. Here are the build specs and some Glamor Shots.

Action:
Stainless Defiance Machine, Deep Fluted Bolt with lightened firing pin, Custom Side Bolt Release, Milled Oposite port area to reduce weight, Extended Tennion (barrel thread area) to support a long floated barrel, and Heavy Duty Barrel Lug installed with 3 pins.

Stock:
McMillan, Filled "Lazzaroni Thumb Hole" With High roll over Cheek Peice, Fully bedded action area with 5/8" pillars, Free floated from 2" in front of the Lug on out.

Barrel:
28" Krieger Stainless Cut rifled, #5 Contour, 1/4" Flutes, 1 in 10 Twist, Chambered in 300 Win Mag with a "Special Match" reamer.

Muzzle Brake:
JP Precision, Stainless, 4 port, exits out sides and 4 holes in top. Nothing out the bottom to produce a dust storm.

Trigger:
Jewell stainless steel , set crisp and at 1 lb.

Bottom Metal:
Rem 700 aluminum Cerecoated silver matte , Magnum Mag box, Lightened follower.

Scope Mounts:
Near Mfg Ultra Light 30 MOA canted picitini Rail, NightForce Ultra-lite titanium rings, Defensive Edge top cap with anti-cant device and Angle degree finder.

Scope:
NightForce NXS 5.5~22 x 56 , Zero Stop, .25 MOA turrets, NP-R2 Illuminated Reticle

Bipod:
Harris, 9~13", Swivel with notched leggs.

Weight:
Rifle alone 8 Lb 12 Oz. With Scope as pictured 11 Lb.

Ammo: Rifle was throated for a 210 Berger VLD that will be set in Lapua 300 Win Mag brass filled with a firm load of H-1000. Estimated Velocity is 2950 at the Muzzle.

Awsome gun!! But I am a little curious about the scope, for a light weight rig, isn't a 56mm obj scope a little big?

Post a range report after you break her in. She's a beauty! The defiance action is sweet!

The difference between a 50 and a 56 NXS is 1 oz. I splurged..

There are lighter scopes, but everytime I buy something different I find myself saying, " wish I would have just bought another NXS"

Congratulations Broz, that thing is awesome. Heard lots of good things about the Defiance Actions but a bit out of my price range until I get all my kids through college. I got my Broughton barreled 300 WM back from MCR a couple weeks ago and it's looking like its going to be a tackdriver. Weighed in at 7-1/4 unscoped. Good luck with yours.

Ah ok makes sense.

I just recently used a nightforce for the first time, lent to me by a forum member and friend. All I can say is wow! I see why you would not want to by anything else. I was thinking of US Optics specifically.
Lot of awsome glass out there like S&B, NF, MK4, USO but they are More than a little out of a 16yr old students price range! I got some nice rifles, by anyone's standards, but even they take me months and months of saving up, selling out another 1,200-2,000 for optics just isn't in it. I am looking into the Bushnell 3200s, Nikon Monarchs (have the binos and the contrast is unbelievable, rivals if not beats the nightforce scope, oh yes, I just said that ) Vortex Vipers and sightron SIIs.

Mark, The shop belongs to Dave Young " Youngs Gun Smithing" of Tracy Mt. A good friend of mine, Chris Magnussen works there and they built it for me. I find Dave and Chris very knowledgable in long range rifles. They do some great CeraKoat work too and build some awesome v block rifles with floating actions. I also had a 6mmbr recently built by them and it is a totally awesome rifle. Just as promised.

Jeff, I met Dave last year when I was up in Great Falls. I stopped in his shop while I was up there to pick up some BTE since that is one of the only places in Montana that carries it. As I recall he said he used to make Kirby's pistols beofre Kirby starting making his own guns.

I just fired the first shot. Bore sited at 130 yards looking down the bore. Fumbled around with the zero stop till I figured that out....

Fired and was with in 1" first shot... Cool! , I was worried about the recoil with this rifle as my wife will need to use it for her Elk. Crap ! it's a kitty cat! The JP brake works awesome! Gotta go clean...
