300 wm ??

Ok so I got some h1000 and am in the process of load development. I notice that 75 to 77 grns are compressed loads. I followed the hogdon Manuel am I safe? Has anyone else had this problem??

What brass and bullet ? I have loaded 77 gr of H-1000 in WW, RP, and Lapua brass with 210 Bergers. Never compressed. But sneak up on it. I was losding for a sendero 26" rifle a while back and 77 was hot. Ended up at 74.6 gr. with a 210 and a CCI 250.

Now my sons Broughton 28" barrel will shot 77 gr and a 210 and never show any sign of pressure.

Darrin, I would check your scales if you are compressing powder. Do you have a bullet around 80 gr you could weigh?

Or are you seating the bullets deep?

I played with H1000 and the 200 gr AB for a bit during load testing. I don't remember exactly how many grains I worked up to, but I do remember that there was a good deal of powder crunching when seating the bullet. I didn't stick with it very long as I was getting better velocity and accuracy with Re 22 without the compressed load.

My oal is 3.553. I put 77 grns in my case and it fills the case. So what I did was put a charged case on the tumble machine and the powder moved down after it settled.

Hmmm. I just took one of my 7mm/300 win's out. Its a WW case with 77 gr of H-1000 and a 180 Berger and you can shake it. Lots of room left on top. I think I would really make sure that your 77 gr is accurate weight.

77 grains of H-1000 should not be a compressed load. Are you tapping your cases and settling down the kernels? I've not had that problem in my 300 but I have had to do it in smaller cases like the 243 and settling down the kernels is sometimes necessary with full charges (not a problem with ball powder). Someone else asked how deep you're seating your bullets... are they deeper than the case neck? If you're still having problems take a picture and post it... pics can help a lot.

Ah... I see you posted while I was last typing. It sounds like you've found the powder is not settling down before you seat the bullet. Too much case lube can make it all bunch up as well...

So I looked at the load data that bryan litz sent me for Berger . 76.2 of h1000 is a 100% fill. I do not know if this has any merit on me with using the accubond but I don't know. Now I am second guessing myself and wondering if I measured correctly.

when I held a bullet up to my loaded bullets I am seating them below the neck. But my oal of 3.553 puts me .20 off the lands. Any thoughts?

You don't need an 80 grain bullet.....you can use ANY bullet. If you have 180 NBT....use them. Or Sierra, or Berger........whatever you have on hand in whatever weight you have. They should never be more than .2 grains off of their advertised weight. If in doubt, just measure 2 or 3, or grab a different box of bullets...what ever weight or brand, and weigh a couple of them. The objective here is to check your scale!!

As far as seating the bullets to deep......my guess is that this is most likely your problem. Seating a bullet in a 300 WM to 3.34" (as per the book) is WAY short in every 300 I have seen. But, of course, I check them all....just in case!!!!!

I agree with you 100%. I found that acuracy in my rifle is achieved with an oal of 3.553. I do not know if this is short but this length makes my rifle a single shot which is alright bc it is my designated lr rig
