I am trying to make a fast but accurate load for my tikka 243 win.

I want to use the 55 grain ballistic tips.

With 50 gr of h414 2.650" col, i get 3722fps.

I tried adding more powder, but noticed it fills it up almost to the top if i add 1.5 more grains.

If I just add .5 grain, will i gain much speed? And is it ok to compress this type of powder?

My chrono is a f1 shooting chrony, are these accurate.

What do you sugest i try otherwise...maybe varget?

Thanks

Good comfortable load (half grain below the manual maximum because it shoots best there) for the 55g NBT in my Savage .243 is 44.0g of IMR4895, WLR primer, Win Brass, seated 0.020" off the lands. Shoots them into ~1/2" groups at an average 3,855 fps out of a 22" barrel.

I am currently working up a load for the nossler 55gr. also.
in a rem 700 sps varmint 26" heavy barrel,I have only tried 3 loads so far, the max load of 44.5 gr. of h4895,,was giving me under .5 moa,but my primer's are extremely flattened,,,I'm gonna try backing it down .1 gr at a time,to see if I can still maintain accurracy,,,my other load of 43.9 was under an inch of moa and no flattened primer's .I'm goon try increasing it a .1 gr. at a atime and see what happen's,,,I'm glad you started this thread,,I'm really interested in what other folks are using and getting for results

I don't recall the exact load but with H380 I get over 4000fps out of a 22" barrel.

With H414 I had trouble breaking 3700 fps.

I got better accuracy with the H380 also.

Factory 243 Win. model 760 Remington.

I also shoot a tikka T-3 lite with winchester brass WLR primers and nosler 55gr ballistic tips. My load is 51.0gr H414 for about 4050 fps. gun)

This load is quite accurate as you can see (I'm hard on myself, measuring groups from the outside to outside) and very flat shooting, but it does tend to heat up the barrel a bit!:D No doubt, its hell on PD's, jacks and misc. varmints of all types.

Use a long drop tube like the one from forster and tap the sides of the case as it fills up. H414 compacts nicely once it settles. Seat bullets to the nosler COAL, don't even bother messing with seating depth.

The 70gr ballistic tip is also great with Varget. I've worked up a good 62gr varmint grenade load as well but can't remember the powder choice.

my range results today
oop's SORRY,,I just can't figure out how to post a pic
anyway's,,,my results today at the range,from a rem 700 sps varmint,26"heavy barrel
win brass,CCI LRP
col 2.6995
44gr h4895 (this is a near max load)
4 shot's under a dime at 100 meters,0.396 moa
this is definitely the load I'm using next winter on coyotes
maybe next weekend I will chrony them and let you know
and I will try one more time to post the pic lol

You can go up with your load. Use a long drop tube and no problem compressing the powder either. Or try a faster powder like all the good suggestions here. I have shot the 55 grain noslers since they first came out. I think me and sniper2 ordered a few thousand right when they first came out and both of us have had great luck with them. I know out of his 6mm-06 imp he could drop a deer like lightning with these little boogers. They are extremely accurate.

hello folk's,I'm back as promised with my chrony results
using the above load, calm day, same grouping as my pic as below, temperature around 30'F,,I don't plan on shooting this load in temperatures any hotter,,this is probably the last weekend of this cold,,I'll be saving this load for late fall and winter on coyote's,,
average muzzle velocity 3945 fps.
this should help a little on guessing how far those song dog's are out there, lol( I seem to have little problem estimating yardages and my 70gr nossler load of 2954fps make's it more important knowing the yardage,I missed a few this past winter, lol ).This load is flat enough and accurrate enough for me,,
note: I definitely noticed from an extremely clean barrel it takes about 3-4 shot's to settle down
can't wait

Yup. That's the Go-To load for the 55g nosler in my .243. Fast, accurate, and reliable as gravity. It doesn't hardly get better than that. It takes a couple of fouling rounds to settle down in my rifle as well. That just means the first group is 3/4", then it goes to about half that.
