Bigbuck, yes do offer non-residents a tag for $350. Robbery if you ask me.

Robbery...yes. Is it worth it for one less wolf in the woods....ABSOLUTELY!:D
Roll a bunch of em' for me while your at it MontanaRifleman. I used to live in Wise River, and worked on a registered Angus ranch.
Remember the Alamo is almost as good as ''Remember the Big Hole, and ranchers in the Wisdom Valley!'' gun)gun)gun)gun)

Wise River is beautiful country. Have you kept in touch with the folks in the Big Hole? Those folks have had enough. I think they would rather have all the moose. Too late now the moose are gone. They could eliminate the wolves tomorrow and my kids would not see moose populations like we had 5 years ago. My kids are 13 and 15 years. For those who do not know, the Big Hole valley was the home of the largest moose heard in MT. I have bow hunted the Big Hole for 20 years, and up until a few years ago I used to carry a side arm for protection from the moose. Hard to find one now. The wolves are starting into the cattle now, and that just does not cut it.

Unfortunately I have not kept up enough. When I left Charlie (H-BAR-J bar owner) hadnt had his stroke or anurisim, and my buddy was dating Chester's daughter. Chester (owner of the Wise River Club) was ok with my buddy marrying Jodi his daughter, and after the wedding, I havent seen much of either. I wish I wouldve kept up more. Donnie Thompson (owner of Thompsons Corner) was tending bar between Dewy and Wise River, and there was more than a few nights I slept on the pool table(it was more sanitary than the ''shacks'' out back) listening to Dexter tell stories of trappin beaver, and even chasing one moose all the way back to Wise River to get his beaver trap back from the moose. All the while Dexter would be skinning beaver by the fire place. I MISS MONTANA!!!!! Oh well, I love central and Eastern Oregon too, so I gotta be happy with what Ive got. But Id be happier smokin a bunch of wolves in Montana right about now.
By the way, all the bar talk sounds kinda bad, but getting a day off was a big thing to a single 23yr old ranch hand who wasnt married. Sooooo......ya.... as long as I stayed away from Butte, I met some great folks.(Butte had some nice folks too), but every woman I met from there was NUTTS! And whats up with ''mullets'' and Butte anyway?:D Just playin. I Love Montana And I wish all of you well on your wolf hunts!!!!!!! Shoot a few for me and all the good folks still in the Big Hole!

I remember driving though the Big Hole and counting 12 or better moose from the highway but I drive through now and in the past six years I have seen 3 from the highway total and I drive it a couple times a month sometimes more. All wolf related. The FWp hammered the Battle Field pack and the pack at the Grasshopper end but they are still out of control. FWP wouldn't dare give a citation for killing a wolf in this valley!!
We had six answer and come to a coyote call a few weeks ago but we figure they were nearly two miles out and wouldn't make it into range before we lost light, we went back the next day and by the tracks they came all the way in and walked all over where we were sitting.
I've almost got them patterned well enough to find them on any given day, I need to find a howler that is mouth blown to at least try to stay legal though.

Wolf hunters need to get educated on how to deal with parasites also. They found the parasites they carry in the elk and moose population this year in MT and it can be easily passed to humans. My boss is a ranch/vet and when he looked at and investigated this his words were " it makes Brucelosis a none event", this could have extreme implications to the western economy which is based on beef.
Check out this link, a lot of good info.Home

I have a buddy on the MT hall of shame :D He claims it as a badge of honor!!

SSS, no longer shoot shovel shutup but SSS, shoot shoot shoot!!

I know if you explain that you are a long range wolf hunter it would get you hunting privileges on any ranch in SW MT.

That Big Hole country is sime beautiful country for sure. Spring comes late there - cold winters. I've hunted the Big Hole - Boody Dick divide a few times.

I'm hoping I get the honors to claim fist LRH woof hunter/killer :) The Idaho boys might have a chance to beat me out cuase I think their season starts earlier.

Here's to the "Hall of Shame"... may I soon become an honored member :Dgun)gun)gun)

I arrowed my first 6x6 in the big hole, we had a nice 40" moose coming to camp and eating some of the hay scraps for the ponies.I had a big old gray one horn moose almost run me over once. one day I took off at Jackson, made a wrong turn, and came out at Polaris, That was game rich country. I wish they would give you a wolf tag for spring, just like bear, wouldnt that be great:D
