Need advice on lightwieght .300wsm. I am thinking of buying a Rem 700 SS sps and sending it off to Lone Wolf for a new stock and bedding job. Or should I just spend the money on a Rem Ti or Sako Finnilght. It should end up about the same price (under $2000) and weight 6.5lbs.

Anyone got a better idea for an accurate .300wsm at 6.25 to 6.75#?

I've got 300 WSM Finnlight and it shoots about 2-4 MOA and Beretta will not do anything about it. They say it's fine. Finding an accurate light wieght factory rifle will be like rolling the dice. My choice would be a Sub MOA Vanguard but I believe they weigh about 7 1/2 lbs or so. Otherwise, for less than $2000, I would do a build off a Howa action, blue print it, put a custom barrel on it and put it in a B&C Medalist and maybe a Jewel trigger.

I have been in the market for a light 300wsm as well. I want a good backpack gun. My eyes have been on the Winchester Extreme Weather Model 70 stainless. It weighs in at 6lbs 12 oz. Its not the super lightest but it is also about $800 cheaper than a Rem TI. I am a model 70 fan and I have heard good things about the new make Model 70s so I think thats what I am going to try. They come with a B&C Medalist stock, fluted barell and are guaranteed to shoot under MOA at 100 yds.

May not be your flavor but its a thought.

My little t3 tikka will do .5" with hand loads. 6lbs and change. under $500, Not glamorous but it works and sure makes climbing those canyons a lot easier than the 10 pounder I use to carry.

I had a stainless Tikka T3 Lite in 300WSM. It shot factory ammo well under 1 MOA, even the inexpensive soft points from Federal. I adjusted my trigger to the lower limit, ~2lbs. Rifle should weigh 6 lbs 6 oz IIRC.

Only downsides are the free rings from the factory (the recoil pin pushed through the ring itself), and recoil pad. Get sturdy rings of your choice and a Limbsaver (the one for the Sako should fit), and it should be ready to go.

Have you checked out bansners? www.bansnersrifle.com They're pretty popular with the sheep crowd and I think they offer a package for an overhauled howa or vanguard for just under $2k. not sure about total weight, but Mark or Tom can probably get you where you need to be.

A used rem model 7 in any of the short ultra mags, then rebarrel to 300wsm, and restock with a lonewolf. You could have the action slabbed, and the bolt fluted, although the last two might put you over budget. Very light, within your budget and something you can talk about around the fire, since its the start of a custom rifle...

Going with Rem 700 SS sps and sending it off for a new stock and bedding job may still leave you with a Remy sub par barrel so IMHO I'd keep that in mind.

My son has a feather weight model 70 stock gut with a trigger job 2 1/2lbs I can olny get 1 moa out of it but not any better but I haven't spent alot of time on load work for it. I think it has a limbsaver stock pad. he has killed deer @ 720 &419 yards with it both one shot kills I think th 720 was an accedent

I have a Browning X Bolt Stainless Stalker in 300 WSM. It weighs 6lb 8oz and is the most accurate out of the box gun I have ever shot. Adjustable trigger and a really nice recoil pad, it doesn't kick bad at all for a light gun.

I would look at the Sako A7, the rifle is lighter than advertised. Many reports of them weight sub 6 lbs. I believe 5.8 lbs. Contains very small differences from the Tikka T-3, such as the open receiver, and actual seperate short/long action formats. Have been reportedly very accurate. I am planning out getting one in 7mm mag or -08. If you look on gunbroker, you will find them between 600-700$, much less than the suggested 800-900$.

+1 so long as I keep the barrel clean mine shoots .5 moa with everything I have tried in it. Limbsaver is a must though.
