hi stu we have the white water second period my first ballot do you no of anyone that has been in the whitewater can you offer any advice to first timmer.

Sorry I can't help much, as this is our first time in Wapiti country. NZHunter issue 4 has a story about some guys hunting the whitewater. Rod and rifle might have written an article about the Whitewater, I was able to get a free PDF of an article about the mid burn from them, otherwise Simon Gibson might have some info for you [email protected] <[email protected]>.
Good luck for the hunt, might see at the briefing.

That mid burn will be a nice cheap block to get to Stu.

Whitewater block is out of the heli exclusion zone so get dropped up high I would say. The fellas that had that block when we had the George did really poorly. Mind you they were lazy barstards and spent most days being flown out of the block back to the charter boat they hired

Went in on Monday 5 April. Paddled across to Mid Burn block, started walking about 10 am. We roared up and Rob shot a 9 pt red by 11 am. By 12 pm I had shot a small 12pt crossbreed, prob should have left, but he had been moaning like a red and I only saw neck and head when he came in. Came out on Sun 11th, only seeing one more animal, 10pt red. We did not hear any more roars/bugles.
The other party we shared the block with hunted the head basin and saw 11 animals but no bulls.
We had perfect weather, no rain, beautiful sunny weather
Next time I put in for a ballot I will only put in for the central blocks, the outlying blocks have been heavily culled for reds, leaving not many animals at all.

Photos as requested.

Rob with his 9pt red, 33" x 27". We roared him in less than an hour after leaving the beach. Rob neck shot him at 20 yds with a 7mm mag and 150gr Sierras.

Me with my 12pt wapiti-red cross breed. Shot about 1 hour after Rob shot his. We heard a few roars and closed in. Only saw neck and head as he came in took a neck shot at 20 yds, just clipped side of neck, had to trail him a while before finishing the job. Would have left him if I had seen the whole body.
