So I'm going to order a new barrel for my Savage model 12 and I am having a hard time deciding on the contour. I'm sticking to the 270 WSM but going with a 1-9 twist McGowen to shoot the 169.5 Wildcats or 150 Berger. I'm going to go 28 in long to get the last bit out of it but I kinda don't want to be much heavier than I am with the 26in factory varmint barrel, 12.5 lbs.
Here's a link to the contours, McGowen Precision Barrels LLC Contouring, I can get any contour for the same $. I was kinda thinking a Sendero or Pac-Nor #6.
No fluting or straight contours. The link doesn't seem to work with Firefox very well.
Gotta decide before the end of the month to lock in a 10% new customer discount.
So, what do you all think?

Look on the Lilja web site and he has barrel contours and weights.

The numbers are different but the contours and weights will tell you the barrel dimensions
and then you can find the barrel you want in any brand.

The Lilja is one of the best and delivery's are always when they tell you also if you have any
questions Dan will talk to you and help put you in the right barrel.

Thanks for the reply JE, I found the weight calculator on the pac-nor web site for weight calculations and have been using that some. The reason for going with McGowen over Lilja is Lilja specifically states on his web site no gunsmithing, I'm rolling this on a Savage so I need it to be chambered, threaded and crowned. The cost to do a Lilja is way higher to get it done in, no argument about the quality. I have seen a few thing on McGowen that kinda concerns me but I live close enough that I can stop into the shop if needed.
What contour would you want for LRH that is heavy enough to shoot well but no extra weight?

I wasn't pushing Liljas even though I think they are one of the best, but I see your reason and
there is nothing wrong with your choice.

As to the contour I would choose a # 5 to #7 (Lilja chart) .

I like the #6 for all but the largest calibers then I go to the # 7 Or even the #8 .

Depending on the bore the weights will vary.
