Brass scratch problem. 🎶

Maybe I am asking too much but I used to lightly run my brand new brass into my sizing die to make sure the neck was concentric before chamfering. I see the directions say to debut first but I have never had a die scratch or mess up my cases doing this before with RCBS, Redding, or Lyman dies. This is the second time I had a die do this and they sent me a new die. Now the new die did the same thing after a few rounds. Am I asking too much and just have to treat it with white gloves and abide by directions or go back to an RCBS or Lyman sizing die? The die I'm having issues with starts with an F but they have been good to work with. I am sizing 7PRC Peterson brass brand new. I hate chamfering if the neck is out of round. I'm just sick about it again after going to fast and not paying attention soon enough. Curse my forgetfulness
The left case was one of the first. Second two around around 15-20. Stopped at 20 when I noticed. Ya I know I'm an idiot. Doesn't matter how long I have been reloading, I can still amaze myself at my own stupidity.

Clean your die/bushing.
Use more lube.
Annealing color is only on the surface, you are just wiping the coloring off. Not a big deal.
Run them though a tumbler after and 90% of it goes away.
I use Forster dies too. Love them.

Are you lubing the necks? Also what is the diameter of the new case neck and what is the diameter of the bushing you're using?

No lube. Just a light neck size with a full length die on new brass to get the hole round for chamfering. It isn't a bushing die. I have never used lub in my other brand dies when just bumping new brass and had scratching. Not sure if it's me not doing it by directions(most likely), tuff brass, or soft die. Maybe all three.

I would run a mandrel through the necks of new brass prior to chamfer. I would also run a few pieces of new brass through the rifle to see if they chamber, most new brass is undersized already so only the mandrel is needed to round out the necks. If you have to size new brass always lube the brass first. I use several Forester dies and have never had that issue. Hope this helps, Jason

I always lube the neck's when straightening out the neck's with my FL die. The process goes much smoother with lube than without.

And I know that but I don't want to mess with the stickiness of a lube where I have to clean the brass yet before loading. Trying the ole lazy way just isn't working i guess. Fired brass I go through the right motions but new brass I try and skip/cheat a few steps. Now I probably screwed up a die. I'll give it the steel wool treatment and see if it improves the scratching.

Dry graphite the necks, mandrel the necks, chamfer and debur case mouths …load and shoot.

Use a Lyman expander die. No lube round neck. Deburr, size,done! I think they call them a "M" die.
