Why did Berger change their twist rates?

When I had ordered my rifle, Berger's recommended twist for a 130gr 6.5mm VLD was 1 -9". Now it's 1 -8"? How often were the 130's not working in the 1 - 9" to need the increase in the recommended twist?

I'm not sure why they should /would change the rate of twist for the 130gr bullet
because the recommended twist for the 6.5 is 120gr=1 in 10, 140gr = 1 in 9 twist,and
anything over 140gr should need a 1 in 8 twist.

I don't think you will have any problems with the 1 in 9 twist at all . in fact I think you chose
the right twist for your barrel. and the 120s,130s,and 140s should do well.

Just My opinion

I have an old box of 140 grain Berger 6.5's and they say 1 in 9 twist or faster with a .640 BC. I also have a new box of 140's that say 1 in 8 twist or faster with a .595 BC. So I guess they have changed their suggested barrel twist.

Berger really missed me up on this.

I ordered a 1/9 barrel to shoot 6.5 140's and bought 500 bullets to start me out with.

I still think you will be OK with the 1 in 9 twist especially if your velocity is in the upper
range of the 6.5.

I wish, they aren't working out.

Sorry to hear that !!!!!!!!!

You may have to cut your losses and switch to a conventional bullet .

Try a 130 gr accubond and I think you will be pleased.

Just in case there is another problem keep the Berger's until you are happy with another bullet
and then sell the Berger's.

What will the barrel be chambered in?
My guess is that the 130's will do just fine.
You won't know until you try.

It's a 1-8.5 and so far it's shooting the 139 scenars fine. But then again it's still warm out. If the twist was border line I wouldn't think that I would have issues unless it's cold.

I shot 130 accubonds in a 10 twist under 1/2 moa consistently. Don't give up on the 140 bergers until you try seating them INTO the lands up to .020." I have a 6.5 sherman with an 8 twist and they won't stay under an inch unless I seat them .020 into the lands and then they shoot 1/2" or better......Rich
