Looking for the best bang for your buck drop in barrel for a savage 110 in 30-06. Med to heavy counour 1 in 10 twist. What are you guys using?

Any of the higher quality prefits will give you the best bang for the buck.

Here are a few of the more common places to get a prefit.

Sharp Shooter Supply- Douglas
Northand Shooter Supply- Shilen, McGowan
Sin Arms- Lothar Walther, Brux, "House Brand"
Pac Nor

Love my shilen drop in for my 300RUM. Shoots like a house ablaze. 1 in 10 30" finished length.

Heard great things about McGowan and Lothar Walther

Haven't heard about a bad Savage drop in actually:)

thanks for the input I did some shopping and it seems like shilen offers a good price I am leaning toward that option. thanks again everyone.

What does your rifle weigh after putting on a shilen barrel.? I read that they don't flute their barrels are they all heavy barrels?

After putting on my 28" varmint. It weighs....alot.:D Sorry I don't have a scale to weigh it.

I went on a hog hunt with it a couple months ago. I hiked with it for about 3/4 of the day before I swapped my dad for his sporter barrel'd 25-06. Mine was sporting a shortened factory plastic Savage stock. About as light as I can make the rifle with that heavy pipe on it.

keep us posted on your experience with shillen. not trying to bad mouth them, but patience is not my strong suit and they definitely tried my patience....to the point that i canceled my order and got a barrel from douglas. they delivered on time and under budget....AJ

I bought mine from Northlander.

It was prepaid. It drop shipped straight from Shilen.

I was quoted 14-16 weeks. Showed up in 9.

i was told 8 weeks....after 9 weeks i called and was told 2weeks more....after 3 weeks i called again and was told it was back to 8 weeks. i called douglas and was told 3 weeks. got the barrel in two weeks.

the next bbl i ordered was from pacnor and i got it when they said i would, around 4 weeks...AJ

I have several Savage rifles with McGrowen barrels. 223 (shot out the factory barrel), 280AI, and Soon to arrive a 338 edge. You can't beat there turn around time. And there barrels are as accurate as any I have seen or shot.
:DCANT WEIGHT FOR THE EDGE.gun)

I have 2 Douglas from SS Supply one in a 220 Swift and other in 243AI 1-14. A 243AI 1-9 from Pac-Nor. Love that 1-9 with 105's A-max's. Took a speed goat at 627 with the Swift and 55 grain Nosler B-tip though. Taking the 1-9 243AI this year to Wy.
