I am planning on buying a used 22-250 Rem. SPF from a guy that has ran about 100 rounds threw it. The gun is not very old and in great shape. What I am thinking of doing is rebarreling it to a little faster cartridge. I have 2, 22-250's all ready but with the short action I now there are a bunch of choices I can go with. I would like to be able to shoot 55 grainers at about 3800 to 4000 feet a second.

Leaning toward the 22-250 Ackley. But not sure. What is Ya'lls opinion?

I dont think you will gain much shooting 55 gr bullets at 3800 or 4000 over the standard 22/250, i know thats faster but there is only so some much you can do with a 55 gr bullet. have you every looked at building somthing to shoot a longer more stream like bullet? I would say check it out I think you will find there is somthing to be said for going alittle slower with better flying bullets.
just somthing to think about, good luck.

Dust...you have two high-power 22's and you want to build another?

I agree with 338Legend. Consider something a little larger, with a better BC. For instance, consider the many .243/6mm caliber choices. Some of them shoot pretty fast, have great choices in bullets and with their high BC's will buck the wind at long range (read: 1k)

Ever think about re-barreling with about a 1/6" twist and shooting the 90 gr VLD's out of a 22-250? This is something that I've been interested in for a while now. My other choice would be something in a 6.5mm, such as a .260 Rem.

I think you can use a 1-7 twist for the 90 gr bullets. but I like the .243/6mm bullets better. the 107 and 115 gr bullets just fight the wind better.

You can actually rechamber the current barrel in 22chetah MKI and get the speed you are looking for. I have a 700 rem, was a 22-250 varment, I rebarreled it with a Hart barrel with a 1 in 16 twist. I burned it out on prarie dogs, rebarreled it with a Morrison 1 in 15 twist. Very fast.

I am not thrilled with the AI version of any caliber, except for the 35 Whelen AI, and only for head spacing.. I have had both 22-250 and 22-250 AI.. saw better groups with the standard 22-250. had a 243 and a 243 AI.. neither was worth a darn, have a 257 Rob.. had a 257 AI.. the AI was consistently a more finicky round than I personally wanted to deal with.. and it would still not out shoot my 257 Rob.. so I sold it.
if you are wanting my opinion; here it is. since you have two 22-250's already... wild cat a 22-08. leave the taper alone, leave the shoulder alone.. neck it down to a .224". the 22-250 has a big taper.. this should make an interesting round. the 308/243 win case is thicker, has less taper, and if you do it right should send a 55 grain out at approx. 3900 FPS.
have fun.

I have a rem short action chambered in 6x284. I have pushed 70gr bullets to 4,000+ and 87gr V-Maxs to 3650 FPS. Buy 6.5x284 brass run them through a 6x284 fl size die and your done. No fire forming. Simple as apple pie.
