Situation: Took the recoil pad off a Rem Model 7. It is a hollow shell from the pistol grip back to the recoil pad with only an approximately 1/8 inch thick wall. It does have a piece of apparently 3/8" thick packing foam that is folded many times creating about 8 layers in it. This is just loosely placed, not packed, down into the cavity. The only function I can see that it could serve is noise reduction. It doesn't add significant weight and it doesn't add strength.

My question: What would be the pros and cons of filling this cavity with bedding material. If this is a desirable thing to do? Apppears to me it would add strength and weight, two qualities that I think would be an improvement on a Rem model 7 in 7 mm SAUM caliber. I have not worked with the bedding materials and am unsure how heavy it is. Would it add too much weight. Is there a better material to use? Thanks for any and all input.

It sounds like a SPS stock and anything you can do will help, But you can spend a lot of
time and energy and still not have very much when finished .

I would recomend replacing it with a "GOOD" stock . Ether a composite or a laminate.

Not pushing him but StockysStocks.com (MBI, Inc.) Home Page has a large collection of stocks an you can have
the stock in a few days.
