Either EGW base or Remington base threads are way off, what to do?

I just installed an EGW 20 MOA tactical base, seekins rings, and a Zeiss conquest 6.5 x 20 on a stock remington 700 .300 RUM. The scope looks 18 MOA to the left! I swapped scopes and rings and the same thing happens.

As it's either a horrible base from EGW or the factory tapped base holes are aligned to the left, what are my realistic otions. I would like to keep the rings and base, but don't know whether or not a good smith can re-tap the receiver to make the holes straight or if I'm stuck with a windage-adjustable type base. Considering the caliber, I'd like to stay with the 1 piece 1913 base if at all possible.

Thoughts, solutions? Thanks.

Can you use a straight edge along the bases from each side to verify if the bases are straight. You can see where the straight edge ends up in relation to the muzzle.

Oh, it defintely leans left with the ruler test. Still don't know if it's a warped base or the screw holes are lining up to the left.

You can pull the bases and put the screws in, then do the ruler test along the screws. They should all line up and aim straight down the barrel.

I had the same situation with one of my 700's, or so I thought. I lined up the screws and used a straight edge and it looked like my holes were out of alignment canting to the left. However, once I put it in the mill, the holes were virtually dead on. Upon further inspection, the action was pollished or ground more on one side and gave the appearance of things being off.

Point being, have some one put it in a mill to check the alignment and spacing. If they are off, then they can drill and tap the action while it is already set up square in the mill. Problem solved.

I had a 700 stainless with the same problem. I got it partially corrected by having the scope base holes enlarged and rethreaded on center (as much as possible). The rest I took care of by using Burris signature Zee rings and offset inserts. Mine was nearly 20 MOA off....

Unfortunately this is a fairly common problem I see on Remington actions. Some have the holes drilled off center but most have been polishd to hard on one side and the base cants in that direction making the windage be waaaay off. Some I've been able to enlarge the scope base holes and correct the problem but alot of time you either have to use a windage rear base or use a Holland Perfect Picatinny Rail to correct.
