I have an old Sako in 7mmRem mag., with Leuopold mk3 3.5x10 50mm. I'd like to try using this rifle for LR. However, I was told that there is no -30MAO base available for my Sako. Is there any option for my Sako?

What model? If TRG, check this out ...

Sako Trg-tactical Mount

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I was told that my Finnbear L61R (L691?) is not suitable, and that I should opt for TRG. However, getting a new rifle where I live has become quite difficult. Otherwise, I'd have purchased a new Savage custom. If I buy a new dedicated scope with suitable base+ rings, could I get a passable 800+ yards Sako? If so, what would you reccommend?

Burris makes some rings that have offset inserts and I think you can get up to 15 MOA
with them.

There are some guys on this site that have used them and maybe they will chime in and
give you more info on them.

Thanks for your kind suggestion on Burris rings. Does Burris manufacture rings + base to fit Sako? I'm only aware of dedicated rings to fit Sako action. Now I await impatiently for others' suggestions.

I'm not sure why you need 30 MOA bases? A 160 gr Accubond with an MV of 3000 fps and a BC of .531 will only drop about 25 MOA @ 1000 yds. If your scope doesn't have that much travel, then I would think that 20 MOA bases would be more than enough to meet your needs. But maybe you do have a good reason for wanting the 30 MOA bases.

In any case, I looked for bases for my M85 Finnlight, and the suggestions I got were...

Talley

Talley Manufacturing, Inc., Quality Scope Rings & Mounts

Near Manufacturing

Near Manufacturing - Rifle Scope Bases

US Optics

Hope this helps,

Thanks MontanaRifleman for your advices. I've sent Talley an email, requesting reccommendation. If the Tally set up can provide15MOA, I'd be happy.

Thanks for all helps. This is an update on my quest. So far Burris hasn't replied to my enquiriy. Tally has kindly replied, and although they have base for my rifle, they don't have 20MOA base. Now it appears that USoptics would be my only option. I'm awaiting for their confirmation that they have what I need.

The 15 MOA basses will give you a zero at 1000Yards with little are no elevation on the scope
with most loads for the 7 mag, So even a 10MOA will add all that you will need.

Most of the guys that use 20+ MOA are shooting 338s from county to county.

I like the 15 MOA on my 338 because it put me into the bottom half of the elevation adjustments
but will still allow me to zero @ 100 yards for my elevation drop chart.

Just a suggestion

Thanks J E Custom. Burris has replied, requesting info on scope to be used. While I have Leupold VariX3 3.5x10 50mm obj., I'm open to reccommendation on scopes to be used for LR. I just want to have scope+base&rings set up for my Sako L61R for LR use.

Talleys are sexy!

Don't know if you have purchased yet. I just went through this same issue. I chose to go with Richard at Nearmfg.com and use his 20 MOA Base and Alpha ringset. 20 MOA is a bit more than I need. However, Both are made by Near Mfg and are made for each other. My opinion is that matched components will provide the best possible fit for a scope setup.

It will be nice to mount a base and ring set that are specifically made for my Sako 75 7STW. I also have a Leo 4.5 X14 X 40 w/ 30mm Tube rings that I will be using. The 30mm tube will provide a bit of extra surface contact for the rings - that should help with any recoil. It will also give a few more MOA adjustments when compared to a 1" tube.

Perhaps next year I can upgrade to a Swaorski or Nightforce.
