We are fast approaching 100 different articles covering many, many topics. I need your help in continuing to have good, relevant topics.

What new topics would you like to see our writers work on?

What existing subjects would you like to see written about more?

Have you ever done an article about the advantages or disadvantages of using a lighted reticle in a hunting scope?

Long range shooting for average shooters with average weapons. How the white tail deer hunter can shoot 400 yards instead of 100 with a factory rifle and ammunition. I suspect that many of the same techniques that enable an expert to shoot 1,000 + yards can be used by amateurs to improve their shooting skills. How to tune a sport rifle. What is the math involved in long range shoooting? How to breathe when shooting, dominant eye, and on and on. Most folks look at long range shooting and the exotic weapons used and immediately feel that it is a sport or science that they could never get involved in.

I would like to see an article on transitioning from so called long range (300 to 500yds). Then tell us what skills and equipment is necessary, nice to have, etc........

I have 9 rifles that are capable of shooting out to 1k, but I am scope poor. I have three Leupold vxIII that I plan to send to Leupold for turrets. I know that upgraded optics will go away to reaching my personal goals. From there it's just practice, practice, practice.

What I would like to see is " Long Range Hunting for DUMBIES"

TIA

I would love to see an article written about just what chemicals are used in barrel cleaning and why one product should be used over the other. I.e., Hoppe's has been on the shelves for decades, but why is Hoppe's, for instance, better or worse than some of the newer products that are being marketed. Each brand screams that "I am the best" for barrel cleaning, but never have I seen research as to what the stuff is made of, why any particular product is "best," nor do I see any research that compares one brand to the next. I would like to see some information that compares price, price per ounce, some measure of effectiveness, etc., such as I see in products reviewed by Consumers Reports.

What "secret" ingredient (if any) is used in each product, or are most of the products offered using virtually the same base chemicals? In other words, I want to know why I should plunk my money down for one product over another. I know that the answer is probably not to be found, but each gun owner seems to have a favorite cleaning method, and each owner seems to use a different product and cleaning method, saying his is the "best." As far as I am concerned, we really don't know the best method of cleaning at this time because there is no valid research out there....or at least I haven't seen any; or maybe there is no real "best" method, and that wear factors and copper buildup in a barrel are not so much related to cleaning methods and chemicals as they are to barrel heat, barrel quality, phase of the moon, or whatever..

I would also like to see something about how barrels are constructed by different barrel-makers, including the methods used for rifling and types of stainless steel used, unless all the metal in the barrel blanks are similar. In other words, if I were to search for a new barrel for varmint hunting, what information could I use to choose a particular barrel....or do they all have the same molecular structure and construction. The reason I am interested is because I heard a comment at a gun shop recently that "target" barrels wear out faster than other barrels. Well...???. What does that mean? I should have stuck around and asked some questiohs, but my wife was waiting in the truck. But, it made me think that I knew less about barrels than I do (which is practically nothing) or that the comment I heard came from one who was some barrel guru.

Yes, I supposed the answers can be found in some digest like "Precision Shooting," but I let my subscription lapse years ago and I don't want another magazine subscription. Since the authors of articles on LRS seem to be quite knowledgeable, I would hope that the information can be found here.

I would like to read a good in-depth article on how the body adjusts to cold weather and how it affects Long range shooting and what prep one could take to help this out. I know the heart rate slows a tad in cold weather but dose it help? Dose it matter? When the adrenaline pumps dose it over ride the true feeling your body is having. How often do people who hunt in the really cold weather practice with there winter gear on, jackets, gloves ect.. Also how dose snow affect in long range hunting?
This would be a good read for some of us southern boys whos winters are not as cold as they are up north. This would give someone who is going on a dream hunt as to what to look for and how to prepare for the hunt.

What happened to Ernie's scope comparison? Equipment reviews/comparisons are great!

How about some articles on the basics? The most commonly asked questions like:

How to get stared reloading. Leave out the advanced business of annealing, tuning the seating depth, etc. Just get the beginners an easy to follow guide on getting the powder charges right to start with. Why are are certain powders, and bullets commonly used for a certain chambering.

What do I need to get started shooting long range? You don't need a custom rifle, you don't need a PDA, you don't need an NXS, etc. Granted the sport is expensive no matter how you enter but you don't have to re-mortgage your house to have fun and get started. Yes the more expensive items make it easier for sure, but are not "must haves".

These are things that would have helped me, and would probably lend well to others starting out.

i seems people have already beat me to it but i would like to see more on geting started such as methods for practing the skills required, the equipment, how to verify your trajectory, methods for working up a load, basicaly the how to shoot long range from the start

I wear green and red socks so I want to Participate along with purple suspenders except when I type naked.

I would like someone like Shawn Carlock to write an Article on practical range cards. What he includes, Different elevations, Temperature, Angle adjustments, and wind compensations.

Does he base these on a Balistic table or actual results, if so Give step by step how to. So we all benefit.

Several good suggestions I see we are on several levels. Read, learn, apply and enjoy.

I would like to see an artical on "keeping shooting fun". I like to reload but I get bored at the range shooting at the same little dot all the time. I would like to know what other shooters use for targets or games played at the range to keep things fun.

How about articles on Low Cost, High Power shooting? For example the 91/30 Mosin Nagant, Scout Scope, Recoil Pad and a tin of 7.62x54 - 440 rounds all for under $250?"

Which Scout Scopes are the best value? Best performance? What are the 'best' scope mounts for a 91/30?
