6000 round savage

i have a savage model 64 that i have put more that 6000 rounds through it, i have never cleaned it, i did have to oil the bolt once around the 4000 round mark, other than that i have done nothing to it, and it still works just as good as the day i bought it (last august). i plan to see how many rounds it will take to make it stop working only oiling when the bolt gets stiff to work.

i have not seen much if any of an accuracy change in it,it is in 22lr i am using it to cool off my shoulder between strings from my 338 wm and just to play around i am finding it is working pretty good for keeping flinching under control. i am shooting from 20m to 75 with fairly good results a buddie and i tried shooting my 1 foot steel at 300m off the bench and the groups were about 3feet, out of 30 rounds we got 5 hits at that 300m. at 30m i was hitting 12 ga shot shells 9 out of 10 times. i have mostly been shooting federal copper plated hallows it is the cheapest ammo i can find in my area i cronyed it at 1100-1200fps (it's not the most accurate ammo). i have a 3-9 Bushnell rimfire on it i bought the gun and scope new i think the gun and scope came out to $200, this gun was meant to be cheap i have put more in ammo through it than the gun is worth. it is the wood stock version that i have

Only 6000 rounds? I should tell you about my 10/22 I bought for $49 brand new retail sometime.

update
i haven't been shooting this gun much since i bought a Winchester wildcat target/varmint(very accurate gun good price too) but the round count is now around 7500. still never cleaned and only the one oiling but the bolt handle sheared off, the gun still functions just fin it is just a little harder to clear a misfire and put a round in battery i have not yet had a chance to take it apart to figure out how i can fix it but i am fine with the bolt handle breaking off as long as i can fix it the stock one left a little to be desired

well i am sorry to say that this gun is nearing it's end, with a round count over 9500 rounds posibly 10000 the the trigger will not hook back up with the sear any more. it is still grouping half decently but you have to pull the trigger 6-10 times to get it to go off.

sounds like a good disassembly and cleaning time, see if you can get it running again.

+1 on the breakdown and clean up. I'd bet all you'll need to do is clean the funk out of the trigger and you'll be back in the game. I've been running a similiar test with an older Ruger 10-22 and thus I'm very interested. The Ruger started to jam quite a bit after 3k-4k rounds, but still fires everytime. I have had to oil it a couple times, but thats all I've done. I've got a buddy running the same test on a Marlin bolt action, he's around 4k rounds without anything done at all (he does keep a little knife handy to pull cases that get stuck, but that's it) We both bought the guns used at about the same time. Before we started our little test we both stripped and cleaned both guns so we'd know we were starting at about the same point. Keep us posted!
