Rabbits eating my apple trees

This evening my daughter tells me that a rabbit is chewing on one of my apple trees I planted in my yard(3 acres). Now I normally leave them alone but I replaced all my apple trees this year because of gurdling by the bunnies. They are starting to get out of hand in the area I live just outside of the city. So I grabbed my bow and my range finder and gave it a try. It was 46 yards.

My daughter and wife watched the arrow from inside the house hit about four inches from where I was aiming. My daughter can't wait until she can draw a bow back she claimed.

Thanks AJ, I sure am glad she takes after her mom, petite. But then again I wish she would take after me, I wouldn't have as much to worry about in a few years when the boys start sniffing around(I remember when I was that age).

As for your rabbit problem, have you tried claymores?

Its time to purchase a pellet rifle and put a nice scope on it, Thats what I
did when they went after my garden, and rabbits taste good ....

I have fond memories of the year when I shot 20 rabbits out of my window in my wife's garden with my pellet rifle

Your Ruger 77/22 should be a good deterrent for them. I remember summers in ky shooting near 50 that were in mom and dad's garden, early in the mornings and late just before dark were prime time. I upgraded the trigger in my 77 and it wears a leupold 4x it's a rabbit or squirrels worst nightmare, also hell on those big snapping turtles which get into the pond and kill the ducks. I shoot cci 36gr mini mags and they don't stand a chance, I tried a rather long shot around 90yd with them and flat smoked the rabbit at that distance he jumped and made it about 10 hops before he was done. I still try for head shots because we love to eat them. Good luck and happy hunting, or a... pest control

I am all about shooting and eating rabbits ! But you really should go to your local gardening center or walmart and get some tree wrap for the base of your young apple trees cost a few dollars and keeps all of the rodents and rabbits from eating girdling your young trees I use it all of the time !
