In the next few weeks I hope to have my .260Rem up and running..

Can anybody recommend any loads? I will be starting with sme Hornady 129 Interlocks, but will try other bullets if these don't group..

Power wise I have RL15, Varget,BL-C(2) TAC and H414 to hand and would like to stick with one of those if possible.

I intend using the rifle primarily for deer in the Whitetail size range plussome informal long range plinking..

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I just put a 260 Douglas long chambered factory blued barrel on a Mauser.
In two trips to the range with H4350 and IMR4895, 100 gr, 129 gr, and 140 gr bullets.
I have Copper fouling on the blued riflings.
It drifted from 1 moa to 4 moa over 35 shots of getting more fouled.
I got the Copper out with KG-12.
Someone else tells me I need to wear the bluing off the riflings with more shooting.

I use and whitetail hunt with 100 grain nosler bt, 50 grains of Win. 760 or H-414 is the same. Dropped 8 deer in there tracks all you need.

Out of my bolt gun i'm using H 4831SC with Win. 7M/08 brass. Horn. 129SST 42.9

Horn. 140 A-Max 41.6 142SMK 43.7 These are all one hole groups

I, like mike33, have had good success with H414 and 100gn NBT's. Same with H4350 and 120gn NBT's....JohnnyK.
How many grains are you shooting of 414? My gun is rem model 7 18" barrel vel. 3100. Never used anything but this bullet, so nasty on deer dont care to try anything else.

H-4831 is a great powder in the .260 Rem With the 120 BT 125 Partition and the 129 Hornady
Work up from 45 grains for the above bullets. I Have had great success with 48-49 grains with the Noslers and ok results with 47.5 grains with the 129. Do not overlook RL-22 with the above bullet weights and in my rifle provides the best accuracy with the 129's. With 100 grain Bt's or Partitions my best results have been with H-414. The 260 is a pretty forgiving cartridge and you should not have too many issues finding an accurate flat shooting load.

How many grains are you shooting of 414?

I tried from 45.0-49.0gn of H414 and I settled on 48.0gn's. I'm getting .2's-.3's @ 3250fps and the deer can't stand it! Another good load I found in my reloading journal today was 43.0gn of IMR4064 with BR2 primers. This shoots about the same as H414. JohnnyK.

With the 100 Bt's 48 gives me 3280, Win Primers The 100 Pt's shoot the best at 47.7 have never bothered to check the speed as the 100 Bt's shoot bug holes and frag Coyotes as far as I can hit them. For Deer I prefer the 125 Pt and they have worked very well for me. I am planning on using the 140 Berger VLD in the 260 this year for deer. I will be starting serious load work in the next couple of weeks and perhaps if I have the time I can post the results here as I work up a load.

I also have a 260 coming that I'm hoping to take it after deer this season. I have the 129 interlocks and hope they shoot well. I like the Hornady interlock design on deer size game.

My problem is getting brass squared away. This is my first attempt at necking down brass and I picked up 500 308 cases. Mostly lake city. Got the redding Type S dies and have some different bushing coming. Need to neck turn first then work on it. If anyone has a detailed process they have seen on the net on this I'm all ears.

My backup gun is all dialed in and ready in case my project takes too much time or somehow doesn't work out like I want.

For powder I'm looking at 4350/414/4831 which I have just need to get the brass worked out then range time. fun stuff.

Searching the net I found a lot of good loading data out there, just a click away and there are a number of possiblities.

You can buy Nosler brass for the 260 if you are looking for something a bit better than standard Rem cases if you prefer. You can also neck down 7-08 brass. If you rifle is coming to you with tight neck diamentions you will probably neck turn all your brass. If you have something coming in the standard sammi diamentions you should not have to worry about turning using .260 or 7-08( necked down). My 260 is just good old plain jane factory stick with a bit of trigger work and for me is just fine for what I need to do with it. Once you get it shooting for you, you is gonna be hooked! It is too bad that factory ammo is not so great and the Mfg's have pretty much forgotten it as a chambering.
