TC ICON precision hunter

Howdy,
Just found this site. Very nice with good information. I live in the Hillcountry of Texas. I have been shooting Black Powder Cartridge Silhouette with a Shiloh Sharps in .45-70 for about ten years. I've shot out to 1100 yards with it.

In a couple of weeks I'll be receiving a TC ICON Precision Hunter in .243. I haven't had a .243 since my Dad bought me a Win. M88 in 1959. Like a dummy I got rid of it. Have any of you forum members had any experience with the Precision Hunter? I haven't decided what scope I want to put on it.

Welcome to the site. Lotsa good info and people to talk with. Never owned or shot the ole Shiloh Sharps rifle, but I have a gunsmith/shooting/hunting bud down in N.C. who absolutely drools everytime he's near one. I imagine those heavy slugs from a far off would be like the Hammer of Thor!
Sounds like Thompson Center is trying to get in on the market also. I hadn't heard of the Precision Hunter until you mentioned it. I went to their website and read up onner. Pretty nice rifle that has a lot going for it as a Varmint/Predator/target rifle. I'd have to get that trigger down below 3.5lbs if I could though.
I saw on Guns and Ammo (TV) where TC has a Tactical version also. I thought that was pretty sweet also. Anyway, again glad you came, stop by again. JohnnyK.

Haven't shot one, but read a good article in a magazine on one. The pillar bedding system sounds pretty substantial. I did get to handle one of the tactical models at a sportsman show in Harrisburg PA. The gun felt good and the trigger was pretty sweet. The bolt throw was short and solid. The trigger was crisp and snapped off quite well. The only issue I have with it right now, is that you can buy a Sako TRG for about $400 more. The TC Icon's are a little pricey. We found out later that the price on the Tac Model was in the neighbor hood of $3000 plus. Not sure on the varmint model or light hunter price. Being a TC could put them in at around $1500 plus. With these prices you would be better off with a custom gun unless the wait to purchase is unbareable. Just my .02. If they could bring the price down to a reasonable cost it would definitely be a rifle to consider. The article showed some groupings with factory ammo in a 22-250 varminter and it was quite impressive.

Thanks for the replies. I've been out of town for a few days and just read my e-mail.
I shoot a 525gr. 30:1 lead/tin bullet in the .45-70. It will knock a 55 lb. steel ram off the rail at 500m with authority.
The precision hunter retails for around $1100.00. A friend of mine is getting me one for a good price. I should have it by next week. I'll let you know how it shoots.

I can't say that I have seen or shot one of the TC Icon rifles, but I can say that last week Mike Degerness (Advanced Barrel Systems) and I were on the phone and one of the topics he brought up was his acquisition a TC Icon. He said that it was a pleasant surprise to find that the rifle shot very consistent tight 3 round groups. I seem to remember him saying that it was shooting close to 0.500" 3 round groups at 100 yards, which is very respectable for a production rifle with Premium box ammunition.

I called TC and they said that the PH's in .243 were just being shipped.
Hopefully I'll get mine in the next week or two.

I got my Precision Hunter in .308, the certificate stated it holds .8 MOA using 150 grain Federal Power Shock, any way didn't try those don't have good feeling about 150 grain soft point bullets used in it. I did try handloads using 168 grain SMK with which this riffle is holding sub .5 MOA all day long with best at .3 MOA probably with superior scope I can do better I still have my old Nikon 9x with BDC, not a target scope, but your .243 should probably do the same or even better.

Got back from the range today, 300 yards grouped at 0.98" and 500 yards 2.17" with the same 9x scope.

Sounds like you got a good shooter. Did rings come with the rifle? If not, what kind do you use? I'm hoping to pick mine up next week. I'm putting a Leupold 6-18X on it.
I'm in the second week of recovery from a knee replacement. I want to get out and shoot it as soon as I can.

Rings, no rings just a riffle child lock trigger adjustment tool and manual, o yeah the thing to take bolt apart, I just took scope from the riffle I trade for this one, it had Nikon 3-9 x 40 never meant to be long range or target scope, I find 18x and higher scopes useless in my neck of the woods, while I'm on the tree stand deer passing under all day long, plus brush is to thick to make +500 yard shots. Got back from the range today, was a bit windy day, put a new 18X scope from Nikon I tweak my loads more and three 3 shot groups averaging 0.15", almost perfection but I did get one flier 0.31"
