I am continuing to stretch the distance with my 223 AI. And the Tasco World class 5x20x50mm just isn't cutting it. I dont trust the turrets to hold true and at max magification have trouble focusing, and would like better clairity. I would like to find a great scope in the same power range for around 500-600 bucks. Any suggestions?

Check the optics sponsors here. They have some good deals, demo, show, etc. SWFA has the Sample List.

I snagged a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 x 50 for about the price you are showing. I even got the thicker duplex looking reticle and it is super OK for resolving clay birds at 800 yds. For your purposes the fine reticle would most probably be preferable.

The only better glass I've looked through is Nightforce. (Note: I haven't looked through very many different scopes)

MWH,
I have enjoyed Leupold scopes (Vari-X III) for years and swore by them. However, they seem to be like a lot of other shooting gadgets, just getting more and more expensive. Heaven forbid someone add the word "Tactical" to something. The prices jump substantially when that's added!
I just recently purchased a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18X40 SF with target dot and mounted it on my .300WinMag. I zeroed it at 300yds, put all the necessary info in JBM calculations went out and shot a 3.5" group at 560yds. A week or two later I was banging a steel gong at 650yds. That's all the range I have for now, but I intend to stretch it further.
I was kinda leary of the $325.00 price tag because normally with optics you get what you pay for. This is a nice, well built, very clear scope. For the money spent, I couldn't be happier. I'm actually thinking of selling my Vari-X III 4.5-14X40 and getting another. JohnnyK.

I second the Buckmaster series Nikon scopes. I have the 6-18x40 and the 4.5-14x40. They are both SF scopes. Clarity good and clicks seem to be good. The 6-18 is on my 300WSM. Pegged two ghogs at 630 and 605. Clarity on target is good. Clicks solid and price is right up my alley. The only other scopes I would consider is the Monarch series and the Sightron SIII.

Just my .02.

If you bump your price range up to $700.00, I would get a Sightron S3.
Looked thru one about a month ago, and imediately ordered one. If the turrets are reliable like others on this site have stated, for the price this will be a great scope.Get the 6x24-50mm with the dot.

Guys that have them in the sniper world like them, but they are hard to come buy. I was too impatient and bought my Nikon that I have been very happy with. If you go that route make sure you get the FFP model. You'll benefit from it when using your mil-dots.

Got a falcon menace 4 14 44 a few weeks back. Have dialed it up and down the thousand yard range Several Hundred rounds since, and can't say enough good things about it...... tracks excellent, turrets are solid, clicks/detents are precise, glass is as good as any Mk4 Leupold I've had(at night also!), very sturdy and reticle is spot on for range extimation and reticle holdover matches dope. Front focal plane reticle works great, doesn't get to small on low power and doesn't get big and fat like some I've looked through on high power.......(imo) they got it just right! Has like 90 moa equivalent of adjustment, I got the mil/mil version and also can't say enough good things about having a recticle that matches the dials!! With my .243 I can use the reticle, with a mil mark to spare, out to a thousand....which is very nice.
