Just got 2 Rem 700 8mm mag's. One is in great shape, other needs a barrel. I'm trying to figure out what build to use the other action? For rifles I have a 8mm mag, 30-06, 6.5-284, 223,222. What would be another caliber to fit into the bunch?

If it was mine, I'd build a .375 H&H out of it. I'd sit it in the back of the safe and if I ever got to go to Alaska or Africa, I'd be ready. Same length and boltface!

A more common long range rifle that would fit exactly the same way would be the 7mm STW

A 7 STW would be a good addition to your collection and it would fit in your action
without any changes in the action. (A 7 STW is a 8mm rem necked down to 7mm.)

The STW is extremely flat shooting and hard hitting and can use 140gr to 175 gr bullets
with extreme prejudice.

They are also known for there accuracy.

Just a thought.

Thanks I was thinking about the .375, but my grandpa has a 375 or 458 I could use if I go to those places. I was thinking about necking down to 7mm but wasn't shure what it would be called. Would necking it down to .260 be to extream?

When the 7mm STW first came out we used 8mm brass necked down and after a couple
of years brass became available.

In the early years there were guys necking the 8mm down to .308 cal
and calling it a 30 super.

later lane came up with the 358 STE ( a 8mm necked up to 35 cal.

All of these will work in your action with out any bolt work or rail mods.

I don't think Going down to 6.5 would be an advantage over the 7mm.

The 8mm mag is a great Elk rifle but bullet selection is poor.

The 7mmSTW would be my choice with that receiver .

I will more than likly build the 7mm stw. Now is that action longer than that of the 30-06? Does it require a special stock? Thanks for all responses.

Remingtion only makes one long action . the only difference is the bole face and the feed rails.

Any Remingtion 700 Long action adl/bdl stock will work depending on the floor metal.

If your looking for a stock, log on to www.StockysStocks.com and you will probably find what you want
and if you have any questions, Don will help you.

I buy a lot of stocks from him and if he has them in stock you will have it in 3 or 4 days.
